I'm feckin ticked off to say the least! I sold my BMW a week and a half ago to a local guy for the sum of £400 as seen. He even got his mechanic friend to have a look around the car on a ramp for a good hour or so and he even confirmed that it was a good car for the money. I mentioned about some small problems with it that will need sorting eventually and thus why the price was as cheap as it is, on this basis he handed the money over and we done the old signatures and details bit on the V5 docs, sent them off, done!

Today the guy stops me in the street and says he's not happy with the car, it's a piece of ****, the battery keeps on dying on him when he goes to start it! I told him before he bought it that the engine needed a good rev as soon as you start it to get charging system going, no idea why but hey, I managed to live with it for months on end with no problems. I even mentioned to him that maybe the alternator belt or alternator needs replacing to which he said, "No, it's just rubbish, I've only done 32 miles and it's doing this, I want my money back!". Tough tits I thought, a deal's a deal and for that price who can complain FFS!!? I said to him that it's only a minor issue and that he had a guy go over it before he bought it to confirm that all was well, so he wouldn't be seeing his money, at all! At this point he rode off and just said, "I want my money back if it does it again."

What a cock. Who would return a car over such a superficial problem, mainly caused by his own stupidity of starting the car up (2.5L), going 500m down the road and stopping, repeat 2-3 times daily, what do you get... Not very many miles for your battery, dumb ass.

Obviously I am not just going to hand the money over to him as the car was sold as seen! Would he have a case against me seeing as though he's not going to get penny one from me the slag!

No. When you sell a car privately, it is the buyers repsonsibility to check they are happy with the car. The only comeback you do have if you are buying privately, is if the car is incorrectly advertised (for example - say, if you said that the car has no rust on it at all, then the buyer was to lift up the boot carpet, only to be staring at his shoes)

If you were a trader on the other hand, he would have a case.

I know all this because I had someone buy a car off me who wasn't happy. Right stressful pain in the arse!

Yeh sold as seen, blah blah...

The bloke cant legally do much, but could give your ear ache & potentially worse if he is the kind of bloke to cause you sh*t.

It depends on how much you are prepared to stand up for yourself, argue... or whether or not £400 refund and sell the car on again... perhaps offering £50 towards a new battery will shut him up...

Its upto you, legally he has no chance of a refund..

Awesome. As mentioned before, the battery is fairly new, it's something in the charging system that is a bit dodgy but was always fine with me when I gave the engine a good rev as soon as I started it everytime, but he knew this before he handed the money over. He can try to have a go with me though, he won't get very far...

Exactly what I think. If you buy a car and it breaks somewhere down the line (in my case a week and a bit) it's your problem! I was as honest as possible when I sold the car, I mentioned things like the brake pads will need replacing soon, the rear tyre had a very slow puncture that needed topping up every few weeks, I even left him some parts that I hadn't got around to fitting yet! To get all jumped up about a fecking battery/charging issue is just absolutely ridiculous! Unless he realized that it drank a bit more fuel than his old, fecked, 1.3 Ford Escort so he didn't want it, in which case he should have done his research before buying a 2.5L! :cooter:

i sold a mint 205 8v engine 2 weeks ago, sold it at a good price, gave the guy lots of spares that i didnt need, showed the engine running etc.

Anyway a week later i get a pm saying " ive bolted the engine in etc but its pissing water out from the plastic distribution block, did you remove this.

To which my answer was yes as i didnt want to brake it upon removal and its only 2 bolts. But i have this feeling that the guy is not happy as he hasnt pmed me back or responded. Bit anoying really as the engines mint, not my fault if he didnt check everythin was tight, and damn its only a 5 min job to nic em up.

This has got me thinking this guy is going to phone me everytime the engine misses a beat, or smokes, or uses more fuel than ususal. Not looking forward to it, but my answer will indeed be the same as yours "sold as seen". Not that im a dodgy **** in anyway but a 20 year old engine is exactly that , and even though i spent as much as possible maintaining it, it will go wrong. A £400 car is the same, its £400 for a reason, just dont budge on anything, He will have less probs with that bmw than he will with a rusty ford.

Ah cant you tell im bored, im writing essays for the crack. Home time in 20 mins, joy!

That's what I don't want to happen, continuous calls throughout his ownership asking me techie questions! I sold the car because I have bought a bike, I don't care about it anymore, hence why it was so cheap to get rid of it! It drove me around for the past 2 years with hardly any problems, only minor things which annoy me with any vehicle I get eventually. God I fecking hate selling cars! I knew I should have just dumped the friggin thing for the sake of an easier life :sad2:
