Just wondering if the windscreen seal can be removed without damaging it in the process ?

Is there a knack to doing this or is it generally removed only with the screen itself ? Haynes manual says leave the windscreen removal/replacement to a bonded windscreen specialist but can it really be that difficult to do - any tips ?

Assume that the seal can be reused but wondered also if Renault replacements are still available ?

Really just looking to inspect and clean the area under the seal......

be done with it an get it removed by a pro, then attend to the rusty areas,
on refitting ask the fitter to refit using a universal seal/rubber surround...

Well yes this is the obvious and easy option but I would like to do this myself and expect there are some here who have already done so.

Not really expecting and nor can I see any rust but would like to check in any case.

A personal satisfaction thing if you like......

assuming your car has the oe seal then why dont you just remove the section
of seal that just 'clips in',around the outside of windscreen, you can then see
as to what/where/if there is rust,if its not real bad /visible then id just clean out
the dirt that builds up bit of polish an refit that seal.

maybe attend to some areas with paint, all be hidden behind seal.

Justin - thanks for the comment(s).

Assume then that if I remove the T piece I can simply pull the seal away ? Do you know how it 'clips in' ? Presumably simply a tight fit ?

Mine was only held in loosely, once the T piece was removed just pulled it around the edge and it was off.

i think the oe screen is made up of 3 rubber seals, one comes bonded to the
glass if i remember, sure you can remove that outer t-piece an replace it easy,
just clips back in,as for the rest im sure you are going to need cheese wire..
it can be done by yourself, just have to be careful,an you would have to use
some sealant to bond it back in.bit pikey like, can be done though...

Angle grinder to remove both A pillars, cut across roof to gain access at top then swing screen forwards and backwards whilst shattering it in the process. works a charm
