Uniroyal atm mate & think mytyres are the place to go... even tho i hear the 185/60/13 are cheaper & easier to get hold of.

Bill has a full set on his cup car and said they handled well... toyo's CF1's i think??

yeah the standars uniroyals are 195/55/13, and are pretty expensive now

as Chris sais, 185/60/13`s have been run by alot of people with no probs. R888`s are available in that size aswell ;):D

gtmatt

185/60 profile will look sh1te, imho.

195/55 MXV's (if you can find them) or Uniroyals every time :agree: As I've repeatedly mentioned over the years, I personally don't subscribe to any of the bollox about Uniroyals being a naff tyre/cr8p on track/widow-maker when it's wet.

Sure, they'll never be as good as, say, the 888's in the dry or T1R's in the wet, but they're not the worst tyre out there in either condition, by far.

And didn't have much grip or braking. As they stated on that program, they felt the main thing causing the big gap to the Twingo was the tyres.

Are Yoko AO32r still around? I drove a five with those on and they really gripped in the dry. Didn't try them in the wet.

Point is was that not round a track at high speed? in comparison to road driving, would their not have been a big difference anyway... so for road use they are ok?

:agree:

And also add into the equation that the Uniroyals have probably perished over the years, maybe cracks in the tyre wall, maybe a bit more 'harder' than they were when new, natural wear & tear structual degradation, etc.

A fairer contest would've been to put something like T1R's on both cars, then see what the outcome would've been.

Anyway, we've already been there with the Twingo vs Steve's Raider thread(s).

Mart

Chris, they're not that hard to track down, but granted they're not exactly in plentiful supply either.

Blick, MXV's, in my opinion anyway, are THE best 195/55/13" tyre for the gtt. Fantastic tyre in the wet, even better in the dry. They used to be...well, still are, an everyday road tyre, not a slick/semi-slick/888'esque tyre as such.

As much as I personally rate Uniroyals, I'd choose MXV's over them, and anything else, everytime.

I heard that they stopped making the Dunlop's a couple of years back.

Steve, those Continentals are old skool tyres as well. I used them on my 5 about eight years ago, and they disappeared from the shelves a long while back. The Perilli's that came in our size were the P600's, not 6000's. They were dog 5hite imo.

MXV's were the daddy of the 195/55/13 brigade. The thing is though, that they haven't been made for a fair few years, so even if you can find some, they're no where near as good as they should be.

Big Steve - Raider

Mart

Been there, tried that mate.

The only chance you'll get of sourcing them tyres is if the club was to purchase a thousand of them (or something around that figure), or if a motor manufacturer was to release a new car running 13" rims/195-55 tyres.

Given that most new small cars run 15" wheels as a minimum these days, I can't see either scenario happening unfortunately.

Penfold, etc...

I've just done a search on Google.fr and come up with this as the first option:

http://www.goodwheel.fr/products/Pneus-ete/Marque/Semperit/SEMPERIT-SPORT-LIFE-M811-195-55-R13-80-T-.html

or:

http://www.acdpneus.fr/produits/tourisme-ete/uniroyal/uniroyal-r340-art10906.html

I'll do some more searching. We live very close to the Continent, so it might be practical for us to pop over. I wonder if Norauto, the French equivalent of Halfords sells the right tyres? If so, a quick hop over the channel will do!

We're in the same boat, wanting to keep the original wheels and tyre size.
