View Full Version : Alloy Radiators On Flea Bay

First post!

Hi peeps i have been a member for a long time now but this is my first post so hello to everyone. Anyway has anyone purchased an alloy rad off e bay, its the one that a fella on there had a few custom made. i put mine on the car today and while on tick over the fan seems to cut in earlier but it won't stay on for longer than about 30 seconds, after about a minute it will come on again for 30 seconds. any one tell me if this is normal.
oh yeh the fan cuts in at the first mark about a 3rd of the way up the temp guage and there are no air locks in the system, i also fitted a new fan switch at the same time 68/78 degrees.
any feedback appreciated.

First post!

problem i had with my fan continuously coming on was from heat soak . basically my top hose stat was 82 and the fan switch is lower than that so it always came on and off ,basically the rad never had water passing through it but the alloy heated up enought to turn the switch on. problem solved when i ditched the stupid low temp rubish and went oe now its fine .:)

Let me get this right...

You've fitted a fan switch thats rated at a lower temp than OE

BUT

You dont understand why its coming in sooner?

sounds like the same problem here. whats the temp showing on yours when the fan cuts in with oe switch?

i know it will come in sooner tim but i had a low temp switch on before this one, only had to change it because the connector on the switch broke. but with the copper core rad and the other switch the fan used to come on at halfway up the guage and switch off when it was just below a 3rd, now it comes on earlier but does not stay on for as long.
any ideas?

78 deg on a standalone dash mate. basically you have changed from possilby a 92-82 switch to a 78-68 switch so it will be on erlier

also my alloy rad cools quicker on my dash than the std item thus the fan is on shorter lenghts of time
