why not just test the fan in situ, or do you love making things hard for yourself?

I will be doing that anyway...but my fan is rather noisey so need to change regardless just wanna find out if my fan circuit is running right

I just fitted a new spal type fan and at the same time binned the renault part of the fan loom and just wired it to the alternator and relay via the fan switch.

try working out where the fan is touching the radiator. then space the fan out slightly.

just checked and the fan still works so it must be the rad switch....funny thing is it was working perfectly normal but loudly before my steam clean...Got it steamed parked it up and it was working, serviced the carb and started again and no fan

How did you test it? by just putting power to the fan? or by shorting the two wires on the fan switch?

If you short the two wires on the fan switch and it doesn't power up then the fault is possibly with the wiring/relays. However if it does then you can safely assume the fan switch is fubar.
