View Full Version : any1 ever owned a nova turbo??? 1 just had me : (
was just sitting at the lights minding my own buisness when a red mint nova sr pulls up behind me (intercooler slightly hidden behind the bumper? :scared: and when you see that on a nova you just know it has the 2.0 turbo from the calibra.... what r they 220bhp!? wasnt gonna go4 it at 1st, but then when he took the outside lane and hammered it i had2 go 4 it. new it was sudden death and yes he canned me after 60mph :cry:

obviously we never broke any speed limits and it was a safe straight dual track ;)
thats it now..... passenger seat, carpet, dash! its all comin out!!!!! :laugh::laugh: sod the respray i need more bhp.
was the front and rear bumpers black, rota rims, caged and got bucket seats? I know my mate sold his a few months back and it went well up north
They're quick enough with a n/a 2.0 in them mate so no surprise that turbo'd one done ya!

couldnt tell u bout the rims... mat black bumpers, shell was completley standard with all original nova sr 1.4 stickers. yeah it was stripped with buckets. this took place in kidderminster though.

even the standard 1.6 gte's were tidy little motors nice and quick for the age of the car, my brother had one when i got my first 5, exhaust and filter and just your standard "performance" plugs etc and kept up with the 5 pretty well! any bigger engine in these cars makes them nice and quick but in all the 2.0 ltr's i went in handled like a dog compared to the 1.6's

yeah it was all straight rd!!!! never come up against him on the bends....
that much power in a little nova is going to be fast.

i was using a 2.0 corsa with NOS for a while. it was fast and i hate to think how much faster the turbo version would have been. but once it got to a corner a decent setup 5 would have definatly left it as they handle like ****e and i bet a 2.0 nove wouldnt be any better.
i know what car i would rather be in!
True, they don't handle very well on bends, but on a straight they do go like stink. This same thing happened to me when I first had my 5 (thinking i was the dogs bollox on the road) i didn't even bother with a 106 gti next to me, so i kind of half throttled it and he just took off lol, by the time I realised it was far from standard it was over :'( haha moral of the story, never assume haha.

sayin that! goin back a couple of yrs ago when novas where everywhere, everytime i seen car stuffed in2 a wall or sittin in a hedge or upside down on a island it was a nova!!!! :laugh:

well the nova turbos are damn quick little motors but with a well setup 5 running some sensible boost your gonna stick with him on the straights in alot of cases up and over a ton is the only time they are gonna see you in there mirros

I hate nova turbos.The only car id have with that engine in is a mk3 astra gsi or opel manta.Gsi's are ok to drive but look naff in my opinion.Vauxhalls have good torque and with a 6speed box in a nova and a slightly mapped motor it will be a giant killer.

Seen a couple down pod doing some high traps in road trim... About time if you ask me....:)
I had a Nova with the 16v and a few tweeks in it about 17 years ago. It was a seriously fast car. Much faster at the top end than any 5 I've owned. Very reliable too.
It did not go around corners though. Great if your into straight line drag, but lethal on a wet B road. You just couldn't trust it.
I helped a mate build one (that was later mag featured) with a Calibra turbo engine in it. That thing was insane, way faster in a straight line than the tweaked Escort Cossie he also had at the time.
I have fond memories of utterly destroying a spit new M3 at the time on the Loch Lomond to Glasgow road one Friday night/Saturday morning. Needless to say, it's a fairly straight road with just a few roundabouts on it.

thats as high as i can get with my in-car..... dunno if the actuators shot and i need a t3 or like the wizard said i need hav a mess with the diameter of some of my in-car boost pipework. ent had 2much time 2 piss about with it yet. believe me i want2 turn it up till atleast 18 :cry:

With all the in car boost controller , why dont you take all that off for now and get fueling set for a max boost by adjusting autuator and tuning/tweaking carb to suit max boost.
Then just drive your car to suit and no need to tinker with boost setting.
or get another spare carb and have one set for low boost 12psi and have one set for say 18psi like you say you want !
Then just mark your actuator to show were it should be for 12psi and were it should be with 18psi. if you want to change boost you need to change carb hence buying a new one.
Or set carb/fueling for 18psi and have it running abit rich when you turn boost down. which "I WOULD NOT DO OR ADVISE" different boost setting different carb setting ;)

sorry to hear about getting shat on by a nova, not much of a nova anymore in my opinion but anyway i have a few mates that hang around the racing scene in brum and they tell me this nova down there was doing scoobies and skylines so dont be too upset lol!

my bro had a 2.0 corsa on throttle bodies and that would easily bounce off the limiter at 8k in 5th, which was a gps 155mph...
i could accelerate to 100 quicker but after that his 4th and 5 pulled like his 1st and 2nd lol

indeed... thats why he sold it and bought a GTT lol..
it was a weapon, but was so highly strung that it kept breaking itself all the time and rebuilds got more and more expensive, at least with his 5 if the engine totally died someone will have another in their shed for £30 lol

the novas are light and a c20;et will happily slot right in
i raced a 2.0 redtop not turbo nova stripped out and it wopped my corlla gti which was close to 150bhp dynoed, and that had a 1.6 doch jap engine 8400rpm:eek:

the redtops are 150bhp the one i raced had itbs and was more like 170bhp:eek:

Hmm, in the video it says look at the speedo... That would probably indicate wheel spin. I can't beleive the guy tries to drive it on a two post lift at the beginning, what an idiot. And by the looks of that rolling road, I wouldn't be taking any of its figures seriously.

a 500hp 5 dyno would be met with total derision. We've seen enough BS dyno work to know what's what. I think it was Scoff who had a dyno sheet for his car that was around 200hp optimistic - at the time the operator swore his dyno was totally accurate.
There is a reason why we're only interested in trap speeds on this site, get back to back traps at a real drag strip, then talk the talk. At a guess he'd be looking at 140mph, one of the drag guys would know better.
My 260hp GTT traps at 120mph.

i own a 2.1 turbo nova aswell as me 5 turbo, as much as i love my 5 i could never see it being reliably as powerfull as my nova, hense why i still have both. they are two completely different cars. love them both :) gyeah

I never had trouble doing scobbies in the five, one springs to mind that kept up thats about it. I know my five would kill my M3 to a ton and that eats scobbies for breakfast.:)
