View Full Version : relocate swirlpot

first off, does the swirl pot have to be at a lower height than the header tank.?

i just fancy relocating the swirlpot to behind the scuttle panel.
my header tank is already in this location so if i move the swirl pot it'll be sat at the same level.
the reason i want to do this is that i want to reduce the number of hoses scattered around in the engine bay, moving the header tank has cleaned the n/s up abit but im want more.

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

Do away with it altogether if you want the minimalistic look, ph1 didn't have one..

Just be a case of getting a couple of plastic joiners or alloy from the heater matrix direct to the header tank, another heater matrix to the water pump. And is it block the header tank top (small pipe) I think. :crap:**** now I have confused myself:eek::confused:

so then..

where does the top header tank hose go to.?

where does the bottom header tank hose go to.?

where does the 2 water pump hoses go to.?

:D:confused:

where does the top header tank hose go to.?

Looks like it joins the top rad hose.

where does the bottom header tank hose go to.?

Im guessing as per phase 2, the heater matrix

where does the 2 water pump hoses go to.?

One to heater matrix. The other to the back of the inlet manifold?

Orange, just for you. ;)

The phase 2 11 turbo set-up is even worse than the phase 2. Its a mix of gtt phase 2 and a can of Heinz spaghetti... with bleed screws EVERYWHERE.

I'll get a picture up so you can laugh... especially at the swirl pot being infront of the alternator.

Looks like it joins the top rad hose. wtf? never noticed that before:confused:

where does the bottom header tank hose go to.?

Im guessing as per phase 2, the heater matrix ok sorted:agree:

One to heater matrix. The other to the back of the inlet manifold?im guessing the hose nearest the alternator runs from the waterpump to matrix? and the other one is to the inlet man?

Orange, just for you. ;) cheers me duck:D

feck:mad: my head hurts. pics arnt really helping that much:scared:
thing is im noticing differences between engines, its doin my nut in

think it would help if i knew the direction the coolant takes through the system.:scared:

also, are phase1 header tanks still available.?

Raj, here is my ph1 setup

The top header tank hose goes to the turbo top outlet

The lower header tank hose goes into the side of the waterpump, then onto the carb base front outlet

Both the waterpump top outlets go directly to the heater matrix

ok finally i think im getting it:rolleyes: but is there not another way to pipe the header tank to turbo hose? ive not seen header direct to turbo before!
as my header tank is behind the scuttle it would look daft routing long pipe fro the opposire side of the engine bay.

have i got this pic right ?

Actually, that doesn't look far off mate.

The Ph1 header tanks are still available, I bought one about 8 weeks ago. I wouldn't wait for long if I were you though. I might still have my old one which you could have, though it's tainted on the inside (hence its replacement)... I'd have to check.

To get this right you really need the Ph1 hoses. I don't think they are available new anymore though :(

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

it would look loads better without the swirlpot
and i know ph1s didnt have one but there turbos were not water cooled and introducing loads of extra heat into the cooling system:confused:

flippin heck finally ive sussed it out:rolleyes: took me a while lol. i just hope its friggin right!!

what im going to do is -

tee the short bleed hose onto the heater matrix hose that originally went to the swirlpot, i'll the fix another hose to the tee and route it to the top header tank inlet.

Does this mean you aren't comin over at the weekend? And you don't want the header tank?
