Looking to weld up the 5 in usual places (sills) But was wondering whats seam welding and why people do it? any ideas welcome
It's welding along the std welded joints (usually in 1" sections with a 1"gap) to give the spot welds a helping hand and stiffen the shell up.

thats stitch welding not fully seam welding, ie continious no gaps.

So its just to strengthen the shell so it may be worth doing as the interior is striped

Not really worth the bother unless you Rally the car, and thats to stop them from falling apart.......

The gaps are necessary to stop cracks propagating right along the joint.
Apparently seam welding the front subframe makes a worthwhile improvement in the dry but can make it too twitchy in the wet.

:agree: it made a noticable difference on my 11 for sure but I never tried it in the wet, it hardly ever rains here anyway
