Today I finally decided to bite the bullet and start the project R11 F4Rt.

After a little bit of cutting :devil: waheeyyy it fits :D

I don't know how long it's going to take me to get everything sorted everything but now I know that it fits the rest should be fairly easy :coffee:

here are some sneak previews;

Nice, this should turn into a nice little project, should be interesting to see what it'd do on the track

can anyone point me in the right direction where I can get an inlet flange made out of aluminium?

That has to be the most optimistic use of the word 'fits' ever :D

it'll be great when it's done, must be over a year ago that you sourced the engine?

well if it's in it means that it fits :laugh::wasntme:

yeah it was 2008 christmas when I bought the engine and by the time I got it shipped and finished my army service and built a Gtt from scratch (phew) finally it's time :cool:

time moves on so quick Andy and I want to get it finished before I'm too old to drive it :wasntme:

Matt, you're right there mate, that box is a big no for the Gtt.

just a little update, I decided engine was sitting to close to chassis legs on both sides and now they're both cut off :scared:

I removed two chassis legs off another R11 from a scrapyard and I will be welding them about 2 inches apart from the original locations.

If I fail the car will be pretty much useless and will be scrapped :sad2:

pics to follow soon.......

it looked like there was enough space, but once I aligned the engine in place there wasn't enough space to put bottom pulley on :crap:

I'm a very dangerous man with an angle grinder :devil:

I actually did. Those cam pulleys definetely not 225 items though.

Maybe he swapped the cams with 172 ones to get a wilder(n/a) profile, who knows?

they are not 172 camshafts in the black car, they look like vernier's on the end of 225-fitment camshafts.

will you use a 225 subframe and steering rack? Have you read about and understood bumpsteer?

is there a Megane/Laguna with 5 stud 238mm rear disk? Or are they all bigger (checked, think they are all bigger) Maybe you can turn one down??

not sure what subframe/steering rack to use yet Andy. I need to get everything together and see what options I will have. it seems like full 225 setup will be easier to keep things near o.e setup.

I remember checking the rears and they are all bigger. I think I'll leave the rear end alone for the time being.

I have now. I love the way you point me in the right direction all the time :)

lower models of the same shape have a manual rack which seems like the same overall dimesions with the 225 pas rack :agree:

both chassis legs have been cut and new ones welded in place to make more room in the engine bay :agree:

Looking good so far!

Do you know the spec of the ledas?

Are they sufficient for 300lb springs ?

Im looking at having mine revalved, although im dubious that GAZ [new owners] will do a good enough job ;/

i l k e r
21-02-2010, 14:51
right, driveshafts on and engine is roughly sitting in position;

http://www.rtoc.org/boards/picture.php?albumid=394&pictureid=10433

this is roughly where the wheel will sit, it's about 3.5" wider and is sitting about 2.5" forward than the 11s std setup;

http://www.rtoc.org/boards/picture.php?albumid=394&pictureid=10435

once I recieve engine and box mounts I'll secure the engine in its exact location and start working on the suspension setup :agree:

finally some progress :yeah:

the car is now sitting on it's feet with the whole Megane 225 setup.

I now need to fabricate some sort of a subframe where I can mount the wishbones and the streering rack on as the stock 11 subframe is not useable/suitable anymore :scared:

I will need a fellow member with a Megane 225 to get a measurement for me if possible. I need to know the distance between the rear locating bolts of the wishbones from side to side.

So anyone with a Megane 225 please help as there's none here that I can get measurements from :sad2:

so, it's good to see my beloved car on it's feet again :agree:

pics will follow as soon as I get some :agree:

***update***

well after struggling with excessive negative camber with the Meggy 225 setup, the angle grinder had to come out to play :devil:

first I removed the strut tower getting it ready to be relocated, it had to move about 4,5cm outwards and about 2,5cm towards the front of the car to give me room for some caster adjustment:

http://www.rtoc.org/boards/picture.php?albumid=1130&pictureid=13911

http://www.rtoc.org/boards/picture.php?albumid=1130&pictureid=13910

http://www.rtoc.org/boards/picture.php?albumid=1130&pictureid=13912

http://www.rtoc.org/boards/picture.php?albumid=1130&pictureid=13913

after lots of cutting and cleaning I relocated the strut tower to it's rough position and tack welded it to get some measurements. It looks like I managed to get what I wanted at first dibs, lucky if you ask me :wasntme:

result, this is the minimum camber I can get with lots of room to dial as much as negative camber one will ever want/need:

http://www.rtoc.org/boards/picture.php?albumid=1130&pictureid=13909

i l k e r

some more pics,

I removed the remaining panels that were in the way, it's now much easier to work with...

http://www.rtoc.org/boards/picture.php?albumid=1130&pictureid=14550

well, the engine is in, got enough room on the strut towers for camber/caster adjustment but now that everything is in place I can see that there's no room for a steering rack :sad2:

more head scratching needed :wasntme:

I may have to do something similar to this for a steering rack;
