Depends on the setup really. Was few topics before and conclusion was that best oil is one that is changed regularly (up to 7k miles).

I use Castrol RS 10w60 because of the ball bearing turbo. When car was standard I used Elf Competition STI 10w40.

i used to use castrol magnatec for agers. not any more as i found it rubbish and others say that too. im now using mobile Mobil Super S 10w/40 (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_25 6851_langId_-1_categoryId_165581)seems very good. my oil pressure is better aswell.

Any old semi synth/synth 5w-40 or 10w-40 will do. I used to run my gtt's on Halfords own brand. Win!

For sure, imho, I defo wouldn't be running a 10w-60 oil though! It's far too thick. Even a 50 grade would be pushing it, even for track attack usage, unless the engine is worn and/or you're seeing v high oil temperatures out on track.

10W/60 is M3/M5/Subaru territory. Far too thick for an old engine.

Tim, I personally wouldn't even use 60 grade in those engines.

Millers is good stuff, maybe a bit too good for the c1j lump :D but it'll be fine to use, and it's an ideal grade of oil.

Its a BMW specialist recommendation. As with the late 90's subaru's (with skimmed piston skirts).

Maybe on a highly-strung engine like the M3, fair enough, although, again, I'd say that was only necessary if seeing high oil temp's on track, and not needed if oil temp's were good, or the car isn't even tracked, but that's jusy my opinion, and of course I'm defo not gonna start an argument with the M-series head honchos!

Who told you that about the scooby boxer engines? Is that grade of oil quoted in the handbook?

German engineers? Pfffft

The shorter skirts? Its a known fact (im waiting for you to abuse me for that lol). Subaru skimmed the pistons down in 99% of the engines produced around '96 & 97.

No, you geeza. I meant the bit about the oil grade to use in those engines. Does it specifically say 10w-60 in the handbook, or is this 'knowledge' from the sidc/scoobynet fraternity?

 cue Mart against the world...

Pass on the handbook, mine's in some funny squiggly writing. Opie recommend 5/30 which has proved shoite for my use. ALL the tuners (DONT START)/specialists/independant specialists recommend it that i've come across.

camparse took 4 years of hell before it let go :) and i dont think it was down to the oil . (a piston picked up and scored a liner) think that was down to too much boooost)

I'm really considering to switch to 10w40 after this discussion. Never tried anything other than 10w60 after the rebuilt...
