View Full Version : Strange tapping sound near gear box.
Hi guys, I notice today whilst pushing my car about on the drive that its makes a repetitive tapping sound near the gearbox and the faster i push it the quick the tapping becomes. Any ideas??
cheers.

would help to have a few more details as to the condition the car is in? for a start why are you pushing the car around and not driving it? have you been working on it? has it been stood for a long time?
Hey well im awaiting a new water pump so i dont want to start it really.
Its just a matter of rolling it out of the garage.
The engine & box where stood for 4 years but i got it running and drove it around for a week or so before the headgasket went.
The noise has only developed recently & not whilst it was on the road.
The box seemed tight and it went into every gear fine.

Probably driveshaft bearings. Make sure they're properly greased up when you next get the chance.
As daft as it sounds, probably worth checking there's nothing catching on a moving part... always check the simplist stuff first.
Yeh I know what you mean! pretty sure there isnt but il double check!
Chers guys. :agree:
Stone or nail in tyre? lol
