Runs like abso. poop

everytime i get up to the car i always like to run it for a while, but, today the car would only run with the choke open. as soon as i close the choke it dies. i tweeked the mixture screw but this made no difference. and did the same with the idle screw.

has anyone got any ideas? also how far in / out should the mixture scew be? is it worth replacing it?

Have you checked that the mixture screw is not broken, as they can break if overtightened.
Also try giving the idle screw a clean, its the big brass screw just under the fuel intake pipe.
