What type of rad you got at the moment? Remember alloy rads haven't got the oil cooler in it so you'll need an external oil cooler too.
the copper ones have been known to be weak i had one and split on the oil side of the rad. just run a std valeo one decent price and more than upto doing the job;)
its just a standard copper core...
totally gutted, thought it was jus a hose causing the leak...cars been gone for months and get it back n this hapens

Definitely go for the factory Valeo :agree:
Also drill a small hole in the thermostat, Cup stylee :)
Or the Roland/ GT Tuning route - just remove the thermostat & charge £50 quid for the privilege
ive heard this debate a few times but with no clear winner
fact valeo or copper core?????

Buy a standard Valeo one, don't go for a copper core one.
so valeo is the winner
i really dont know what the problem was with the bloody radiator but goin from fine to hole is not on.
i think il get a valeo one.not got th money ryt now to buy an alloy one simply because the oil cooler is external
its like the pepsi challenge!!!
:D
raj would say lets start a list
valeo - 1
pace 1
pro alloy
radtec
copper core
nissens - 1
other - 1
:D:D sorry i couldnt help myself:cooter:
just to add, i found the nissens rad identical to the valeo one i had

If I had to buy another rad i'd stay away from the copper cores, 1st one I had had a hole appear in the side casing and same as you was within 6 months of fitting. 2nd leaks oil from cooler unions so runnin seperate oil cooler, waiting for rad to go so can change it for a diesel rad
For the hundredth time of posting this; there's nothing wrong with the o.e cooling setup, even when being used on track. Alloy rads and/or remote oil coolers aren't necessary.
I stumbled across this on ebay the other day, not really sure how good they are. Not gonna be on par with pace/radtec quality though

i agree totally with that:agree: but with me i thought id try something different which has turned out to be alot more hassle than its be worth:disagree: i wont be fitting the 1.9d extra van rad in the 5 ever again.

Had a valeo one on mine, no problems, good running temp. Then must have nockd it and put a small hole in it when working near it, only thing about was a copper core, so been using that for last month or so with no problems. Would have prefered my old valeo one though
well ive ordered a valeo one
hope it goes ok
:)
i seen that alloy one on ebay
its changed price it was 170 quid the other night as buy it now
weird
Right, not being funny or anything but here's a wee English reasoning test for you all. Nothing difficult, I promise.
Ebay. Chinese. Car Tuning.
Anyone see anything in those four words that point to a happy ending?
Anyone?
ANYONE??
Test over. You'll know if you've passed, because your money isn't with paypall.
The guy's in China are the ones doing the hoses for the group buy. Unstable Cable has had some of their stuff and I believe it's ok.

With all due respect, put it on your car and if it's still held together after 2 years of driving, then it's okay.
With the rads, I've seen the 'quality' of Chinese welded alloy before. A hyperactive 7 year old could put there name to it. Actually, Chine being China, thats probably who did it in the first place.
Until the Chinese stuff is proven over the long term, not for me really. Horror stories still outweigh the happy ones on any of the enthusiast websites I visit.

It'll be fine.
It'll be fine.
:agree: I'd bet money on it.
cool stuff chaps
i thought copper core wld have been fine but a freind said to me due to the extreme cold we got here and then the extreme heat from the water tht could have caused it to split or burst???
???
:)
Extreme cold?
No, they break because they're sh1t/cheap n' nasty made.
well yeah....-6 hahaha
i have seen it happen to glass
just a thought
:)

they must be made in china eh:rolleyes: :D
they must be made in china eh:rolleyes: :D
If it's the ones I'm thinking of, they were Spanish made.
And no, they really weren't that hot on quality.

its all about the swings and roundabouts
a rad works two ways . both inside and out
neather a copper core or a std valeo will work if eather the inside or the outside is clogged, changing the front bummper can also have an efect on how the rad works.and no runninig the fan fulltime makes no diferance, its all about the air flow
a clean aloy rad is as good as a copper core jobbie :smokin:

Ive got an alloy rad in the five and I dont think that it works any better than an o.e one I had in my old car if anything its worse, the needle is always up near the third line.
On a diffrent note though I would have thought the copper core rad would work better because its a better conductor than aluminum, maybe its just the quality that lets them down.

i have one, its no better or worse than Oe but the guys down the pub aren't impressed by valeo, they want to hear about my alloy rad and intercooler set up..
some parts are bolted on for power, some for reliablity and others for pubtalk..:p
I also have a alloy rad .... and i like the way its working so far ... far better and stronger than the copper jobbies in my opinion .... The true test will come in summer !
well the copper core has been binned and now i have the valeo fitted
seems to be doing the job fine and my water temp is slightly lower than it was before not creeped even with the third bar at all
so all is well
cheers guys for the help
:)
