Want to get rid off the bump strips in my bumpers, seen quiete a few pop up for sale but alot seem to be cracking. Anyone know the best way to fill them and with what so they last?

Agree :).

I'm not sure if I would approach it in a different way if I done it again but I basically run a line of screws inside the gap for the fibre glass and filler to grip onto. This was the whole chunk will not fall out.

With any filling you want to ensure you dont have any sharp edges that can crack along. (if that makes sense)

Most crack because the paint hasn't been removed before the fibre glass was slapped in, as said it's all in the prep work

Done this on a previous R5 and it was the dog nads but it is all down to prep work, my current R5 has had it done but it has started to crack (not my work) so i will be doing that soon)

mine are done and they were attacked with a crinder to score the inside of the recess. fibre glass filler (not) was pushed in right up so it was level with the bumper face then skimmed over the top with body filler.

my advice would be to attack the whole area with a grinder to key it up well including the edges where the filler will be going to cover the recess. Then buy somthing call SMC its similar to filler in the way its applied only its usallly white or black and has like carbon fibres within it. Ive found this to be very stong and hard to crack and works very well for filling areas. Fill the majority of the recess using this , and then finish with p38/filler to give it a smooth finish. be sure to use a flat block when sanding otherwise you will end up with a very rippled bumper :) thats the way i would do it. Not sure where abouts you can buy smc now days as my old supplier stopped, best of luck with it, and just make sure u key any area where you will be fillering onto very well.

just done a quick search and this is that smc i mentioned, great stuff for strenght however requires a layer of filler to go 100% smooth finish.
