Right as someone I know does flocking I have asked him to do my 5 steering wheel on the top part and the bottom leaving the sides to its original where the holes are but as my car is not on the road I cannot test it.

He has never done it before so I am asking a member of the site if they could help me out by trying it to see if it lasts or not and if so I could be setting up a group buy if needed if people would want it done.

Prices would be about £25 to have a steering wheel flocked fully which in comparison to buying a named brand is cheap and it retains the O.E look as no steering wheel boss is needed.

Any input would be handy and as soon as I have it back I will have pictures:)

for my complete dash, all the steering column bits, glove box, top dash, stero cover, speaker bits etc

its comes to 125 quid. I had quotes elsewhere and was looking on 160+

He is based in Kent but the more work I can give him I am sure the price can go down:)

:cool::cool::cool: That's good!!!

I'm not wanting to flock loads on my car, just the dash top.

I'll put my dash forward for a bit of flocking then for a kind of group deal on flocking if one takes shape???

If not i'll take it down there myself & mention your name :D if you wanna tell me who it is? ;)

Yeah anything can be flocked and more parts the better. I will leave this open for a week roughly or until i get my parts back take photos and post them up and see how it goes as I am sure people will want to see the finished product. I think I might even get the back of my sparco evo seats done as they have marks on the fibreglass so I can put other bits forward aswell to be done

Might be worth asking a Moderator to change the title of this post to Flocking Group Buy or maybe start a new thread to get more attention???

How much do you think it would cost to get that much done?

Let me get my dash back to show off the finish product as without pictures I think not many people will be involved. Any bits can be done and send directly to the places which is based in farningham kent. Turn around will be about 7 days and they are open 7 days a week so parts can be dropped down there.

Here are some pics of bits that he has done already:

Three weeks ago tomorrow I collected my flocked instrument panel surround and fascia.

Cost £46inc plus petrol to Watford. Cost mainly due to a lot of masking required as the 'clocks' surround was a close fitting part.

Done by Thomas and Vines who did for both Subaru and Mitsubishi WRC's.

I had it done to stop the terrible glare so I chose black flock.

They can do most any colour by blending fibres from a basic palate. Even put text, logos, designs or pictures in.

Also can do different lengths. I had around the clocks in 0.5mm and the fascia in 0.7mm. They can do up to about 4mm. Subaru used the same 0.7mm. Mitsu the 0.5mm.

It's very tough apparently. Only power tool will get it off he said. It does pick up dust and fluff like one of those 'velvet' brushes!! But I went over it quite firmly with the vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment and it's fine.

The chap there said he did a notice board 20 years ago that been out in the weather all that time and the flock is still there like it originally was, although the colour has faded slightly.

I've taken some very poor photos which I'll try and re-size and post here.

I'm very pleased with the flocking. No glare at all now.

To me it's not nice to touch at all. Makes me react like finger nails on a blackboard!! It's not soft like velvet, but hard and bristly. I certainly would not not want this particular stuff on the steering wheel part that I hold. Nor on the doors etc. Even the 4mm feels rather similar although also rather furry!

PS, As suggested, I changed the thread title.

I actually really like the look of flocking and its such a great way of cleaning up an old interior too (like the door cars a couple of posts up - what a result!)

As for the dash above, it looks really great, but the screw heads ruin it for me....could you work in something like this?...

That may be possible.

I would just like to say that there are some home flocking kits around where one applies some glue then 'puffs' on the fibres from a squeezy bottle. They can look patchy and the fibres come off.

Mine was done using electrostatic voltage. The glue is electrically conductive and sprayed on then the piece placed on a metal table connected to earth or voltage. The fibres then spray from a 'gun' through a mesh which also has a very high voltage and imparts static to the fibres which then attract to the glue and plant themselves in it and all stand up in it, so they go on very evenly and affix very well.

No! It's not fabric. See above posts.

http://www.flocking.co.uk/ I went here simply because they were nearest to me. Googled flocking. I had confidence as he said they did the top WRC teams dashes.
