View Full Version : painting brake calipers
ok, this is actually for my 205 rather than r5 but same principle, i have never painted brake calipers as 90% of the time they look crap. however im buying some gti6 brakes and they could do with a lick of paint. Would i be right in suggesting hammerite is the best stuff to use ? , i will also spend the time in preping the calipers them self, lots of work with a wire brush spec.. ahh fun fun .
Yeh hammerite is the stuff I used, did mine in black. Gives a good even finish. Just make sure the prep work is spot on, which im sure it will be! :agree:
You can buy caliper painting kits but not sure if there is any differnce???
Do not use Hammerite since it needs to be placed on rusty surface and it is too dense for small parts such as calipers. Rear calipers on my car... I cleaned them and polished to mirror finish, used metal primer in spray and ordinary red acrylic spray. I tried few times using 550 degrees thermo-paint in spray but in each case it was too much orange(ish) and never had any shine. Calipers with it look like piece of plastic. The better you clean calipers the result will be better ;)
sweet that sounds good then, just out of interest, where do you get acrilic spray from ?, and is it ok with the heats of the calipers, i certainly wont be painting the centers of the calipers, but instead only the outside thats visabily on show when the caliper is fitted with pads etc.
Acrylic is ordinary red spray without metallic crystals in it. In 90% cases red color sprays are acrylic, so you won't have any troubles finding it. The color will hold without any problems. Before I fitted 4 pots at the front I had painted calipers for over two years with ordinary red color and they were OK. Only few tiny paint peels due to poor cleaning on the corners of the calipers.
i know what ill be using this neon orange acrylic paint ive got on :D

I done mine with a kit from halfords. It came out pretty well but the paint is pretty thick.
Markey B's look much better with the spray. I wish I'd done it that way.
