View Full Version : National Day, live mixing evening

OK folks, i've been to a few National day events over the years and what springs to mind now is the fact that IMO the majority of us are from the same musical era of old school etc, if you have the walk about there's many a car playing tunes from stereos. More noteable was at Santa Pod last year where we had Trickys Transporter van with some tunes on the go and a few people enjoying the vibes (apologies if we got a bit out of hand) :ashamed:

Now, many a conversation has gone on between me and Mart over the last 2-3 years about the idea on setting up some decks and CD mixers to provide an array of old school to Drum and Bass and maybe dance genre of music for you club members in the evening of the ND. So we're putting the idea to you lot on whether you think this would be a good idea.

We would obviously adhere to any rules, maybe even get the chance to use a room on site for the evening, keep it to a sensible level to keep everyone happy.

We're looking at this as an opportunity to provide some musical entertainment for the club members, bringing us all together for an evening of tunes.

Your thoughts and comments are most welcome, club members and committee.

Rich :)

As I've previously said to you, I've always thought this would be a really cool idea. I always look forward to the events and having a little drunken dance in the evenings lol

It happened at ND a few years back (sorted by Harpo and his clan) and it was, in the words of a big, bad bully, an EPIC FAIL

Problem there Billy was the choice music that was being played :D Only joking. Nah, the problem is that I don't think everyone knew it was taking place, plus we were pitched up a fair way away from where Harpo was spinning the platters that matters.

If we pitched up around where that lonesome rtoc canopy was positioned at Mallory, that's kinda central, so might attract more people...maybe

They should have done, as it was plastered all over the Nat' Day threads at the time. I agree with the location of it not being el perfectos though

Outdoors:

I agree a very good idea, back to the days of the 'rave' era pre 93 where i believe Mart knows his stuff, i have a few tunes from 93-94 and some heavier dark D&B too. Being outdoors, the decks under a large gazebo with a nice crowd of people enjoying the tunes (reminiscing)

The bad is the beautiful British weather, as always we can't predict it or pre book it to be what we want it to be :wasntme:

Indoors:

A good idea, mains power :D erm, the weather as mentioned.

Could Mallory Park organisers be approached about it and ask if there is a room we could use for the evening. If they can see we're being mature in our approach about it then they could be willing to help.

Failing that an open field with the sun going down with a few tunes and a beer or 2 isn't a bad option

I'd like it to happen but want to go through the right channels from the start :)

I am really feeling this idea... at POD we had 1 major issue was Security & neighbours... not really helped by us Camping next to the neighbour... if they let us camp the other side of the track ie: neared the shower block etc we wont disturb anybody.

Mallory park looked empty around us so noise shouldnt be an issue. :D

I am liking the idea in principle, but as already pointed out on this thread, the last time Harpo did this it was just a handful of Northerners in the tent. We've gotta get rid of that North/South divide 'that doesn't exist' but results in the Northerners and the Southerners spending the night at opposite ends of the camp site (apart from the 6 or 7 who make the effort)
Ill speak to Mallory this week and let you know about a room/venue Ricky. :)

I am not taking the marquee to any events this year thou, ive lumped that thing over 500 miles around the country in my phase1 for it to be used once, for 5 mins, by the French Renault owners club for some pics :crap:

Hi, last year they had the music fairly loud in the bar until the small hours. As we arrived late we spent the night in the car park and the bar. So noise didn’t seem to be a problem. They had fancy dress in there on the Saturday night and Karaoke at some stage. Would definitely like to see music and dancing going on. I have a generator, but forgot to bring it last year. Had packed the laptop, projector and had a few gigs of films, but no power. I can bring along to the next events, if someone could remind me to pack it.:)

AWESOME idea Ricky to the P but why not let the new Technology take the strain & just connect an Ipod up to some speakers & then you're not tied to the wheels of steel all night??

It's a good idea Steve, we're looking into combination the 3 ways of playing out the toons. You can't beat vinyl, the original art of mixing a set together, the idea of using CD's or MP3 is to play tunes we don't have on vinyl. Keeping it old school :)

No strain on mixing, it's a pleasure

Okay, ive spoken to the bods at Mallory.

They do have a hospitality suit available for hire.

And,

They dont think there will be a problem with us rigging up a sound system in the field, as long as we aint gunna give Jean Michelle Jarre a run for his money. BUT im awaiting confirmation of that, plus a price for the room from their hospitallity/events guy who hasn't been in this week.

Looks like either is an option

Because there seems to be one list after the other on here these days, and in fairness they're pretty pointless.

If people don't want to listen to the music, pitch up at the other end of the field.

It's all about trying to get the members together anyway, not just for the fact of rinsin' out 'Charley' at 2 in the morning...

Exactly, not quite 'rinsin at 2am' more organised and kept to a sensible level.

Stu, thanks for taking the time to ask on our behalf. If it's held in the hall that's good, if it ends up in the field under a gazebo, so be it. The main thing is we have an informal evening of music which brings the RTOC crew together, not all night to the early morning as i/we do appreciate it's not to everyones taste.

Bear in mind that National Day is primarily about bringing us who share the same passion all together in 1 place, to bring friends together throughout the club who've not seen each other for a while for a few beers and a chat. So why not bring music into the equasion as well  :)
