Your soon cracking on... :agree:
im goin start on the bodywork ,, there is quite a bit of suface rust , and deep rust , im goin to cut it out in the bad places and weld plates in etc , just want to know whats the best stuff to treat rust ,to make it does not come back ?? or whats the process of treating rust ?? thanks matt:)
POR-15 is quality stuff for rust.......:)
where do i get that from  does that remove it :)
or the best rust remover ie kurrust ?? rust primer ??:)
ive started on the bodywork today , and ive noticed to big holes in the outer sills on both sides, goin to get some new ones ,whats the best way to fit them on as ive not done it before ?? do i tack them on over the old ones:)

any one ????????????/
You can but i wouldnt, the correct way is to either patch them or cut the entire old panel out and replace with the new one... if you tack over them the rust will still be weak underneath any you have just welded to that.. and the rust will soon attack the new panels. Do it right and cut out the rot - its a pain but worth doing properly, especialy if you think that most of the stregnth in a 5 shell comes from the sills...
thanks mate i will cut it out then and patch them up ;)
Alastair
26-02-2009, 22:56
You can see here what mine looked like before i started. If you look through the first little bit ive cut out at the rear end youll see the inner sill (vertical plate) that also looks quite rusty, be sure to check this bit when you are chomping out the rust. If your lucky they will still be solid and only suffering from surface rust which you can treat with a good grinding and then a suitable anti-rust (I used De-Ox Gel by Built Hamber - top stuff). In the end most of this sill came off and got sorted properly. It is easier to do if you buy a sill panel to chop up to make the patches from rather than 'forging' your own from 2mm mild steel plate, which takes ages!

Good luck :agree:

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk71/barlow103/IMG_0313.jpg
Forgot to reply to your text mate.. The windscreen bonds in, and to remove it you need a tool that is basically like cheesewire and it has 2 handles on each end, so you use that to cut through the adhesive. Pretty easy job if you have someone to lend you a hand. I borrowed one from my Mums work, but you can get them off ebay
thanks dude will look on ebay now cheers matt:)

yep alot of parts are still there very expensive it helps if the parts man knows his stuff as my renault dealer is an old school fella he used to work with all the old gt turbos at my dealership ,so he sorts and souces alot of parts for me , its costin me alot spent thousands on her , still gt an engine to build :)
such a good build there mate makes me feel so motivated when i see this!!!
keep it up, if mine is half as clean as yours once done i will be a happy man.
What sort of cost will the whole build be?
Im up to fitting my cage, then of to paint. I can not decide weather to get my running gear blasted to or replace with new. What sort of cost are the parts?
Im not looking for a mint car just something half way there. Looking at this make me want to spend spend spend

Ahh thats good then, I''ve got a Series one RS Turbo with 43k on it, just done a light resto on it, parts for those are getting hard and expensive! If anyone knows of a nice 90/91 R5 in white with resonable miles I'd be very interested!
Thanks
