Exhaust fitting tips

I have taken off my Scorpion back box as the actual pipe was massive.

I am am trying to fit another rear section back on and I can't for the life of me get it to slip over and on. Any tips? Use something as a lubricant, heat it up??

What's the diameter of the middle section and what's the diameter of the back-box? Is there a size-mismatch? i.e. 2" vs 2 1/4"?

If they are the same size, one of the two will (should), have a couple of sections cut out so you can flare the end a bit to ease fitment. Wire wool the inside/outside and put a small amount of grease on each?
