What Is It?

Ultimate Finishing Applicator Set from Serious Performance

What Does It Bring to the Table?

The Serious Performance Ultimate Finishing Applicator Set gives you one each
of our very popular 80mm Orange, Blue and Red Finishing Pads combined with
one of our 75mm Finger Straps.

The 80mm Orange Light Cut Pads are perfect for use with light - medium
abrasive polishes and paint cleaners. A dense, firm pad, yet with enough give
so as not to be to harsh on your paintwork.

The 80mm Blue Polishing Pads are perfect for use with light abrasive
polishes, paint cleaners, cleansers and glazes. A soft, forgiving pad. yet will
still handle light polishes and help restore a high gloss to your paint.

The 80mm Red Finishing Pads make the perfect applicator for your glazes,
sealants and waxes being durable but very soft. They are small enough to be
stored in you tin of wax when not in use or can be washed easily and used
again and again.

The 75mm Finger Strap is adjustable by two velcro straps so will easily
cope with any sized fingers yet is soft and comfortable and takes any effort
out of having to 'grip' applicator pads.

What Do I Think of It?

Having sent back a very positive, and possibly unexpected, message to Alex at
Serious Performance about his blue applicators "with wings", within my next
order parcel came yet more goodies to try. This was a pack of 3 pads with a
velcro finger strap holder - intriguing...

Anyone who has read my other posts about MF cloths and applicators will know
that I'm fairly ambivalent about these bits of kit. After all, an applicator pad
is an applicator pad, right? Erm... not quite! Being that SP is run by an
accomplished detailer in his own right, this is another innovation based upon
personal experience of a particular need.

With my gammy hands I do tend to be a tad hard to impress. When you're
limited to using only your hands a bit of a mystery occurs; why the devil would
you want a range of pads that emulate those that are used on a machine,
when working by hand can come nowhere close in terms of finish?

Now, I'm not sure that I can answer that question, especially as I have so few
polishes in my armoury. One of them seems to eschew the norm of using a
range of pads to go through the polishing stages anyway, especially on a
machine.

So far, it may seem that I'm finding reasons for these pads to be close to
redundant. Not so fast! For anyone who has the slightest problem gripping
small pads, especially keeping hold of them without them being launched into
outer-space, there is no question that these will be found as very useful.
After all, getting into the nooks and crannies and getting them to look their
best is what detailing is meant to be about.

The finger strap is so versatile that you can have the pad on the outside of
your hand; you then fold your hand into a fist to polish; then open your hand
again to grab an MF cloth, without needing to put the applicator down. For
me that was magic! Suddenly, no need for that much sought-after 3rd hand,
or a safe place to put the pad down in while buffing :smokin:

This picture describes precisely how the finger strap works

The problem with small pads, especially when working outside as I mostly do, is
they are very light so keeping them clean of foreign bodies is not that easy.
Whether using polishes or paint cleaners, keeping the work area clean is very
obviously a high priority.

Pros

A very nifty idea to solve a problem we'll all probably face at some point.

Cons

The fact that this comes as a set with 3 pads and the probability that the pad
wear and tear will not be even tends to highlight the cost factor. One way
around this would be to buy packs of small pads separately.

Conclusions

After an initial personal resistance to these came the revelation of their real
adaptability. With potions needing to be buffed-off fairly briskly after their
application these days, the kit comes into its own. Sadly, the finger-strap
doesn't come separately.
