View Full Version : Website Upgrade WED 30 March 2016
some of you may know that ive been building and testing a new version of this website, all being well i will be swapping in early march, just a bit more testing and that should be it
the shop and site will be off for a whole day ill give you all plenty of notice when this will definitely happen.
lots of new features, zoom avatar, lightbox on photos and attachments, Facebook integration, multiquote and many other features, external pages will look almost the same but the forum is very different, it should be easier to upload pictures too, also has a dedicated mobile skin with just the basic forums and live page.
i hope youll all appreciate the very hard work thats gone into this and enjoy the site for many more years, ill get back with a day asap guys
regards mick
thx julian yep you can upload attachments from the mobile easy now on full size site, ill just need to limit it to 5 per post as is now as pictures drink server space

that sounds way better :) fair play
Great work Mick, you are a credit to the club to get this forum back into the best place to be with the shop work you have done and now the website :agree:
Yep :)
There has been some really good work from various folk in the last 12months, in no particular order and not covering everything each one does:
Mick - website and shop upgrades
Bigfoot - Shop management, parts sourcing, dialogys/manuals section
Majid - Membership packs
Matt C - Consistent encouragement on all fronts and pushing things along
Ian - Financials and general advice based on experience
Also:
James and Alex - Ongoing involvement in various things
Thanks guys :agree:
Hope I didn't forget anyone :o

I'll just need to limit it to 5 per post as is now as pictures drink server space
Will that limit apply to photos on a remote server?

Steve

bad news all the album pictures are being lost during upgrade, trying to find a fix but its not looking promising, after a great start just 1 little problem I keep you all posted sorry
No worries, I'm sure with enough notice people can save their album pictures to a computer and then re-upload once the switch happens
Is this profile album pics or ALL album pics? The former would just need an email out to the membership base to save before switch over and repopulate thereafter. The latter is a totally different ball game :(
its really pishing me off this is holding up us now, its the first trevor roughly 6500 album pictures not all of them the attachments are fine as long as i run a query straight after upgrade this was the orig bug in 423 but i only found this by luck basically there there on my dupl 371 but by the time ive upgraded there gone the link is there but no pic. part of the upgrade moves the albumpictures to the attachments system, today i even moved the 371 dupl album pics to filesystem instead of db like here pics worked fine but on upgrade gone again, ive reached out to the vb community and dave the coder but no one has come across this before, ive got a feeling when this was moved to nimbus and pics were lost and moved is the problem ill hopefully hear tom and ill see

Keep going mick we are so close!
i remember something like this happened the last time the site was upgraded, some albums were either lost or ended up in someone else's profile.

ill come back anywayz with a outcome but let hope at site is 99% complete this can be fixed
issue is fixed :cooter::cooter:
issue is fixed :cooter::cooter:
If anyone can you can :agree::goodJob::worship:
So are we now looking at a date to upgrade the website? then you can have a bit of a break mate as I know you have been extremely busy and stressed with it:coffee:
it wasnt me but ill take credit for finding the issue it was dave our top notch coder from holland not much he cant do, yep website is 95% done, i need to run a full upgrade and then add all the mods and hope alls ok
ive got loads going on as you know james but should be able to squeeze in still this month as im away 11 apr till 25 in dorset/devon
and loads going on with car and house
maybe july???:laugh::laugh:
Great work once again :agree::agree:
Great work once again :agree::agree:
well thank you kind sir
the shop mod will be done at the same time:agree:
ok basically sites done coder having a look at fixing corrupted albumpictures from previous upgrade/server swap but this wont stop us upgrading looking to do just after easter if the coder comes through this just tidys things up
so hopefully unless anything comes up by the end of march
just doing last lot of testing and final upgrade now, once done coders looking at albumpictures but we may not get this working correctly as its very hard to fix
site slow as doing upgrade on server it will return to normal speed after
sneaky look of forum home now see attached
last testing now then its when I get time to do:coffee::coffee:
http://www.rtoc.org/boards/attachment.php?attachmentid=20820&stc=1&d=1458674783
looks like it finished finally thank christ, halleulah
just need to find time to do now
the forum and shop will be offline for most of the day wed 30 march from 9.30am till I finish but should be by 9pm
unless anything comes up that's it:agree::agree::agree::agree:
ok just one last word on this obviously ill do my best to get this done Wednesday but if i do encounter any problems we will revert straight back to this as its easy to put straight back
but im not even contemplating it going wrong but you just never know

:agree: great stuff mick ;)
just a reminder this is tomorrow
my a55 is twiching as this is a massive task and there can be any mistakes:cry::cry:
Mick, might be worth posting this on RTOC facebook group and is it in big letters on the homepage?? will their be a site down page tomorrow ?? be nice to have a funny gif with bonnet up and person hanging in the bay and advising slogan "Upgrade in progress" LOL
ive not got the fb intergration working properly yet as I think Ashley may need to set it up but ill put it there anyways
if you could get a notice up on fb jim that would be great, unfortunately there wont be a upgrade in progress as ill be working on the live site it will come up with the auth until I remove it, while im doing minor stuff there will be a upgrade in progress up anyways
this is very long winded and I think I can get majority done but maybe there maybe some tiny glitches that will need attention after
ok bad news if I upgrade tomorrow then we cant get the albumpictures from old back in the correct places, this has come from my highest quality coder as the structures of the tables are totally different, so once we go ahead tom anyone that's albums were corrupted when moving to nimbus will not get them back, I could manually copy them on vb4 but it would take time and id need people to pm me but some for sure are lost anyways,
its been like it for ages and people can just re upload so don't think we should wait, this is unfortunate but a very small price to pay for a new site I think
my computers decided to start playing up after a fresh install:cry::cry:
found out now from coder fb intergration is only to connect to Facebook through vb it dont convey posts or thread even though it states it does in the control panel
least we will have the addon function which works the same in time vb may connect fully
dee day lets hope it all goes well
