View Full Version : can you tell if you have uprated valve springs

Hi all,

Im pretty sure my head has uprated valve spring, as it is a gt tuning stage 5 heads, but im not 100% sure, is there away of telling or should I just buy some, and change them over just to make sure, before fitting my new 285 cam..??????

If you didn't have a cam before i doubt they will have uprated the springs.......

unsure if they are red,
but will they look any different to normal one, apart for being red,

uprated will look slightly fatter and be much stiffer if you try crushing them in your hand compared to standards, originals have red paint on, pipers are all black. if you put the two next to each other its a easy spot.

Yes the uprated springs have less coils in them compared to the standard ones and also if you put them together the coils wind the other way (well the set here i have do:D)

If your going to use a piper cam i would fit the springs.

if you like revving the crap out of your engine on a std cam like i do then you should fit some uprated springs, or carry lots of spare pushrods.

They do look different to the other ones on have on the other 3 heads ive got sitting in the shed,
