Evening gents......... I have recently aquired a set of early gaz coilovers suitable for a phase 2 GTT.

Just been cleaned up and painted soI am now at the stage of getting them together. I have been using a thread ashy created a few years ago for reference on assembly order.

Thread -http://www.rtoc.org/boards/showthread.php?t=23516&highlight=Front+shocks

But i am still unsure on some details. Attatched are some pics of my one assembled, and the other separated but placed in order that the first is constructed (ignore the fact top mount is missing)

My question is regarding the renault bearing, on ashys pic he has it fitted on top of the spring cap, beneath the rubber donut. I currently dont have one.......... do i need to fit one? And where?

The gaz spring cap I have has a bearing already, so is the renault one neccessary?

Thanks

it all looks ok to me, however, the hight adjustment ring that the spring sits on, shouldn't there be another ring to lock the top one off?

Great, thanks for that. There is a "scored" ring on the top spring cap and im wondering what part has rubbed there in the past..... so possible renault strut bearing? Im going to order some tomorrow anyway just in case.

..There is an allen head bolt/grub screw on the bottom part that locks it in position on the threads.... I have attatched a pic where you can see it :D

ahh yeah i had a set like that on my first 5, the photos you just put up look exactly the same as my old ones.

you would only need one bearing fitted, replacing them for a new renault one though should be fine, and at least its new.

from what i can see it all looks ok, its been a while since i have has one of those in front me me though.

im sure there is someone on here that can confirm that 100% for you, i just noticed that missing ring that isn't actually missing haha.

:ashamed:
