Took my 5 keys to have some spares cut today......no joy.

First guy (independent shop) said he's not had any blanks like these for a while, second guy (larger chain) pretty much laughed me out of the shop.

The first guy said if I can get hold of the blanks he'll happily cut them.

Are the blanks really that difficult to find these days?

I've had a search through the forums and found a couple of threads on getting spares cut but none of people having trouble getting them done.

I'm going to try a few more places but thought I'd see if anyone else has had this problem.

Cheers in advance.

Timpsons was the second place I went.
He said he couldn't cut them even if I get the blanks.

I've searched eBay already but I have been searching UK only.
Do you guys often buy from abroad? Do you ever have any issues?

You can also get keys cut from code on the internet but I've no idea if the original locks are in the car.
Also seems a bit dodgy supplying somebody on the net your keys and address!

I've just bought the lockset that you would buy from the dealer.
Consists of two barrels, fuel filler cap and new boot lock.

The keys look like the pic.

And as I was informed yesterday, the keys look a lot different to the original door lock keys. More like an ignition switch key :(

So, it looks like I'll be getting a smaller ignition Style key to go with it.

I'm a bit pissed to say the least!

What was the price of the lock set matt?

I got the part number and price from the dealer. Approx £90.

Then found one in France for less than half that. :p

O should add, it's all new and was sealed. It's just a pic in poor light and looks dirty?

The big chains won't cut any keys if you take the blank in. Some tosh about they are liable if the key breaks in your ignition.

They can only guarantee the quality of their blanks so will only use those. I have some blanks for my daily driver and am struggling to get them cut :(

I've been trying to get keys cut for years for my 5.
The ignition ones are no problem. But nowhere keeps the door lock ones, they all tell me they've been obsolete for a long time.

I never thought to try ebay in case they don't match up properly.

See below the pic of the keys I've just bought.

I only realised yesterday that the current door and petrol flap key (not rear hatch) has the exact same style of key, so it's obviously had a lockset at some point. Don't know why they didn't use the hatch one though? Maybe as it's not colour coded? Who knows.

Incidentally, does anyone know if it's easy to remove the rear hatch lock cover? To paint?

:)

Bit of an update!!
Managed to get an ignition key cut today £7
They've ordered the other key for me so I'll go back next week to sort that.

Ironically it was another branch of timpsons! In Meadowhall.
These guys were great and couldn't do enough for me.
I would recommend them. :agree:

I've not tried the key so provided it works..... All is good.

So did they have OE style keys?

I'm not sure as I don't think my original key is oe.

The new one is on the right.
I'm not sure what the other one they've ordered looks like yet.
I hope it has the Renault logo but I doubt it will.

Oh, I thought the one on the right is an OE ignition key in all but that manufacturer's mark. My three GTTs all had keys exactly like that in design.

So Renault and Peugeot used to use the same style keys?
I prefer the look of the new one. Looks a bit more 80s.
Just to add, the blade part of the new key is quite a bit longer than the older one.
Still not tried it either.

The reason I used "OE looking" is that it looks OE but could be a copy.

The key on the right is a non OE key, but yes, it looks like the Neimann keys originally supplied.
