Hi all,

Just a few questions for you.

Piper 285 cams, are they all re profilled now? Not form blanks? Does anyone sell the full kit at a discount rate, for buying full kit? Cam, pulley and springs?

Pistons and liners, where to buy new ones? Just std.

Oil pump, havent had a guage on yet but should i just shim it if internals look ok?

Gasket sets, top and bottom, gsf??

Timing chain and tensioner from.....

Probabilly forgotten a few questions!

Cheers Chris

piper still do the cam from a blank. cost a bit more and is made to order. I got my cam kit complete from ric wood in stockport. it had the springs cam and pully for £380 at the time.

I think mike 16v r5gt turbo spares gas piper cams if not cgb. Same for liners etc. In fact get the whole lot from Mike or cgb and you will get a club discount from Mike. :agree:

Cgb lists some piston and liners as a kit for 200.00 what make will these be? Anyone used these?

Also, i know the difference about re profiled cam, but why opt for a blank?

A reprofiled cam can make the engine sound a bit more tappy can require more adjustment of the pully for timing it where you want it. My 285 was from a blank and for 113 degrees it only needs a very slight adjustment of the pully. It is also as quiet as the o.e cam was tapper wise.

Both engines I have installed this cam in both timed up to 112 degrees without any adjustment at all.

My guess is with a regrind that probably wouldn't happen.

I'll go for a blank if when i strip engine i find liners etc ok.

There was a bit of a tap when running, couldnt decide if piston or just a tappet! Will have a look when stripping engine.

Currently cutting rot out and welding

Gutted, few of the liners corroded and marked, pistons look to have polished slightly on skirts. Big ends wernt the best, bit of transfer on the crank from a shell but came off with a light sand and wd40.

On the plus side just ordered new pistons and liners and all gear to re build engine :D

I wouldn't use the crank without getting it polished up properly . Or even ground to .25 better safe than sorry dude .

While it's all apart its worth having the crank checked by an engine shop, maybe get the head looked at too.

Wise words mate, defo get crank checked as it may require a polish/re-grind. Also get pressure tested/skimmed as required. :) :agree:
