View Full Version : Trigger wheel sensor kit
Hi.
After getting a Nodiz kit I have been unable to get a bracket to hold the trigger wheel sensor. Chris"Scoff" has stopped making them and also ME motorsport are no longer supplying them :cry:
I'm wanting a straight fit tbh as I want it work as it should and not have to mess around with a universal one
Anyone on Rtoc know of someone making them for the C1J or some one selling one of scoffs?

Why did Scoff stop dong them?
he's too busy to make any custom parts for the near future

It's a shame as my brother needed a trigger wheel and that bracket for his future efi conversion.
Would it be possible for someone to take it on from scoff?? and then put them in the shop or a group buy?
How many would sell?
I guess it would mean having that parts made.
Why didn't scoff have a batch of them? Not enough profit on them to break even?

I guess maybe 2 would sell at most. It's great that it was available and does help take some of the pain away from doing an efi conversion.
Pretty confident it would be more than 2. Always hearing of members going efi or planning it
I would guess Scoff had a batch made up for him, 10 or 50, and the last few took a couple of year to sell. So it wasn't worth having another minimum order quantity made.
What do people use for EFI conversions?
The efi 5's I have seen have used scoffs one.

Not sure why Chris stopped doing them but could be down to the fact the adaptronic kit can run of the Std GTT flywheel pattern now but retain the std dizzy cap setup for ignition :agree:

And cgb Motorsport sell 60-1 trigger wheel on billet fylwheels now as well, so no need for trigger wheels and you can run wasted coil pack;)

That does look tempting, save some hassle. Then again would need to remove the box
Maybe Bob will get on the sensor brackets

have a look through here. managed to have it running wasted spark and sequential injection. might be a option for you to make use of the existing tdc sensor and use the dizzy for a reset so the wheel paten can be used for the triggering with the dizzy giving the tdc.
I'll get round to it eventually, if there's a big demand i can prioritize making the jig.

Only the bracket would be needed as the wheel is easy enough to get.

I doubt you'll get many interested in the bracket group buy but I'll try my best to get a jig made quickly as I've got some time off work soon
Okay mould is made and polished, So stuck waiting for more carbon fibre bits
I'll take my bracket off, start making a jig design and buy a small amount of material tomorrow to make roughly 5 brackets,
it'll be made out of mild steel as that's easier/quicker to source at short notice
I'll then check it fits on my engine and has good clearance with the sensor to wheel, I'll probably paint them with etch primer and satin black paint.

Wouldn't it be better to wait a day or few and get a better material, Alu or stainless?
Would Scoff not be interested in the extra brackets?
I don't believe scoffs bracket is stainless or ally.
I can buy what I need tomorrow easy.
As you can see I've already started :)

First one made.
Choices of designs
Slotted holes or normal drilled holes
Not drilled for sensor or drilled, tapped and test fitted on my engine
Getting some good demand on the fb page. Thanks Fordy for making it happen
They're not too hard to make in all fairness,
The worst bit is the sensor hole as I've used thicker material than scoff
The welds are strong enough, I've had them in the vice and can't twist or lever them off.
By slotting the bolt holes it gives a lot of room to change the sensor to wheel clearance.
For those not on Facebook
First 2 painted just need to drill n tap the sensor bolt hole and cut down a stainless bolt to fit

Tested and painted.

I'll be making a full list of prices so people can see I've made very little on these brackets
Breakdown on costs
Metal bar = £33.14
Welding wire (stainless), argon mix gas, grinding and cutting discs = £0 as already had them but included allowance in labour.
Stainless bolts and washer = £0 Already had them.
Paint - £0 Already had them
Got enough material to build 10 brackets.
Metal cost per bracket = £33.14 divide 10 = £3.32
Labour per bracket = £40 (see above) divide 10 =£4
Total before postage = £7.32
I'll look into postage costs... i usually use parcelforce as they collect from my work making my life so much easier, but happy to use someone else cheaper if needed.
So overall your looking about £15 for the bracket posted.
I'll look for trigger wheels and see, the centre hole on most wheels needs drilling to suit our crank bolts.
Depending on trigger wheels costs I'll be tempted to buy the wheels as well and do a package for everyone

Problem with that link Rob is that this bracket isn't designed for it, clever design tho.
It's been designed for a trigger wheel up against the original pulley without the crank pulley bolt spacer/washer.
By sloting the bolt holes, I've made up and down adjustment for us. The clearance is important, too close and you'll hit the wheel. Too far away and the sensor voltage gets too low for the ecu to read correctly (vr sensor).
There's no in-out adjustment unless you spacer the bracket away from the timing cover and the clearance to the chassis leg will become tighter

Ok mate. I wasn't quite sure on how the trigger wheel sits. I'm clear now.. For future reference, do you recommend tack welding the trigger wheel to the pulley?
I personally haven't bothered yet, the crank bolt at correct torque and right thread lock is very hard to move.
but then others have done the tack welding just incase, so it's all personal preference.

I would tack weld as the timing wheel will slip and your timing will be out easy solution just drill two m6 holes through the timing pulley and belt pulley and fit some m6 bolts, did this to Logg car as the timing pulley kept slipping;)

3 yet to start.
Should be done by weekend.
Next project will be carb jets mostly because I want a mini lathe and need an excuse for one and the price for the jets is too damn high!

So far looking through the facebook posts i've accounted for 5 brackets for people
Your brother would make 6-7 depending how many he wanted. Then 3 left over.

Does Scoff not want to take the remainder?
If not, do you want to sell them yourself or they probably could go into the RTOC shop.

Still have 2 brackets here wrapped up ready for postage that are getting in my way
I'll send them for £10 inc postage just to get them out my sight :laugh:
