Hi guys.

Might be a stupid question, but where are the jacking points on the 5. I'm assuming behind the front wheels, and in front of the rear wheels along the sides, but mine's lowered and I the side trim obscures the view.

Cheers.

yes they are just behind the front wheels. Just inside the inner sill and sticks down about 1" from the floor pan

They tend to rot like mad, so watch out when you jack it up if your not sure!

I once found my jack inside the car footwell, needless to say the jacking point failed in a dramatic way.

Inner rails are better to jack up on, jacking points on 5 s are useless

Here's a question-

mine need doing along part of the floor pan. So is it really worth putting new ones on? once i have got the floors done?

Do them now if it was me. The reason I say that is because the jacking points are still available and the price hasn't gone through the roof yet, circa £100 for the pair. Once they are done that's it, one less thing to bite you in the ass a few years down the line. :agree:

thanks:)

I have them ready to fit, just was wondering if its worth putting them on as I always jack it up on the inner rails.

I bought a pair of jacking points a couple of years ago, offside fitted as original holed, near side still to go on just never jacked on new jacking point always chassis rails. Be a bit annoyed if some jacked on the replacement point & bent it lol. Well worth buying jacking points & sills for future use ;)

When I bought mine a month or so back, there was less than half a dozen left of each side.

Yeah I had similar when I first started to restore mine. I thought id jack it up just to see how bad it was underneath and when the jack went through the jacking point and started to appear inside the car I realised the car was slightly more rotten than I had thought!

I got my jacking points from allcarpartsfast.co.uk, worked out at about 30quid each which is cheaper than cgb or ebay. I dare say you could probably get them for the same price from your local Renault dealer but for the sake of a few quid postage I just ordered online.

I just fabricated my own sill repairs out of sheet metal as I figured that was easier than having to chop the whole sill out & weld new one in. If you take your time over it you can get really good results. Besides, they are hidden behind the side skirts so noone will see them anyway.

Hi,

do you have the part numbers for the jacking points? the website doesn't really help as it doesn't really state it clearly.

Aterro, are you going to update us on the progress of your rebuild with some pics and info? There's lot of advice flowing your way since you bought your GTT and joined RTOC but we're not getting to see the fruits of your labour.

That's what I love about RTOC, it makes me feel not such a nutter for my own spares hoarding addiction :). Was having a tidy up earlier and thought I would see how many spare filters I have. So far I managed to find 16 oil filters and 4 fuel filters.. I found a couple more oil filters after I took the picture :ashamed: Still as I dont ever plan to sell the car I can kind of justify it.. although I probably don't need anymore.
