So then, for everyone that's not hardcore enough to be using their 5 on a daily basis in the winter months, show us what you're driving and why.

Here's my clunky old smoker that I'm running over the winter:

Quite a rare Phase 1 in Bianca white (got a strange attraction to all things phase 1 )

It was cheap to buy, really cheap to run and it now goes like a rocket. It was well below the standard 90bhp when I bought it but a general service, 2.75" straight through exhaust, K&N filter and some serious tuning of the fuel pump and more boost means it a smokey old flyer now.

Best of all is that I really don't care what happens to it so its ideal for winter.

What have you guys got?

This is my daily to and from work it does the job but I really don't like it to drive.

Very nearly bought one earlier this year james as the family wagon (3 kids) but I heard horror stories of fuel economy and every post on the Facebook page is "why is my engine management light on?" So I chickened out and bought a 1.9cdti mk2 for us instead.
As it happens, I've not found it to be too 'maintainance free'. So far I've replaced discs and pads, thermostat, EGR link pipe, metal coolant hose, drop links and most recently the gearbox as it decided to explode. All that since January and before we bought it, it had a recon turbo and a new water pump.

How do you find yours? Any better?

JP, I'm suprised. I thought the landy would be a real nice drive

Ross don't get me wrong it drives really well it's just I like to have something quicker as my daily which is a bit unpredictable. I still have a Saab 93 1.9tdi which I love but as I've been given this from work it would be rude not to use it ;) keep thinking about doing a turboed valver for my daily nothing mental just a good 300hp lol

Unfortunately no boost :(

This is my current winter banger, literally got it home welded the diff and stuck 55psi in the rear Tyres. Skids well, stacks of mot left and was super cheap. Plus I can get my push bike in it, smiles all around.

It's nice to drive nippy in low boost setup as it has switchable maps, fuel economy i have seen 23mpg but most of my driving is local. It's a little harsh on the ole suspension as it has fk coilovers all round. Ref maintenance not done much other than full service, clutch is starting to slip in high boost setting but fine in low, so I will need to do that soon. At the end of the day it's a vauxhall they all have faults. Only issue I had was the day I picked it up it had a lumpy idle turned out port on rear of EDS inlet manifold was open to atmosphere and needed to be blocked up.

That would be insane:D

And it gets standard wheels with Pirelli Sotto Zero winter tyres for the cold months.
