Well I suppose I'd better start a thread for this one.

I bought it from a real nice chap on here (thanks Andrew) at FCS this year.

What we've got is a two owner phase 1 in a fetching shade of pink.

I'll start with the pictures of how I found her although Andrew did have some older pics in his album when he was selling her which can be found here:

http://www.rtoc.org/boards/album.php?albumid=1900

Here she is on the day I first set eyes on her

And here she is with Andrew and his two boys

So obviously it's been a few months now and other cars have taken priority but slowly I'm getting there.

My plan is to get her ready for an mot and run her 'as is' for a while. A survivor if you like, and then next year a full resto.

Digging through the history has been great, there's even the original bill of sale from its first owner who traded her 3 year old '84 audi coupe in against it. All service history etc etc. it really is amazing. She's also only covered 60k from new!

I've ordered a few parts from mike and so far have swapped the carb for a good one that's been jetted for a bar of boost, replaced some hoses that had seen better days, replaced the wheels with a better set of phase 1 wheels, fitted a new thermostat and throttle return spring, bled the cooling system and given it a general good going over.

Next on the list is to go through the brakes and get the O/S front jacking point welded and then I'll put her through a test.

As soon as that's done, it's a full service and get using her.

Both doors need replacing but I'm going to weld one up for her existance in the rat look phase and replace them both next year.

The best thing I've done today however was to take her for the "first drive" just up the road and back and then fit these

So there she is "Old Nail". What do you think?

Love it!!

Would she not polish up with a machine?

I agree with leaving her faded for a bit though looks it looks like a car you would see in a hot country bombing around unloved.

Lovely original phase 1. Bracket from rad to top water hose your missing is still available from renault about £3 to. Shame I can't find part number of equivalent bracket for a phase 2.

Not an update as such but this really cheered me up today.

Standard exhaust system and downpipe for old nail.

I got it weeks ago thanks to David West but only just opened it for the first time today.

Really can't wait to hear it :D

I wish. I've given up on a side exit devil now. Well atleast the one with the straight tailpipe.

This is just a standard system seeing as the car is going to stay standard apart from a slight drop.

Looks like it has a different tailpipe finisher on it to normal. I like it!

Yeah looking at the picture, it looks like the tailpipe is seperate or a slip on type but it's just the angle of the picture. It flares out when viewed from a decent angle.

I'm well pleased with it :D

It flares out? What are the origins of this exhaust? I've never seen any tailpipe flare except on Devil's. The original Devil's were mild steel.

Or does this have Bosal stamped on it?

Believe these are the walker exhaust system, this was for a phase 2 Renault 5 GT Turbo

Edit - ooh, in which case the mounting of it to the Ph1 might need a bit of fiddling Ross :agree:

So I hear Trev but I'm not sure in what way they differ. This is the same system that's fitted to the car at the moment but I know an early phase 1 should have the outwardly rolled peashooter. Hopefully if it's the mounts on the car that need twisting or bending, they'll have already been done for the system currently fitted.

Trevhib

Cool. Yeah, you'd think if it's the same one being fitted as is already fitted, and the current one is fitted properly (or at least has no issues), then you'll be fine.

There is a description of the differences somewhere in the annuls of the site. IIRC it's to do with the middle section mountings.

That'll give me something to search for then. Thanks Trev :agree:

No probs. I had a bit of a search yesterday. I found Mike from GT Turbo spares talking about the hangers being different but didn't mention specifics. I couldn't find the thread I was thinking of, which is years old.

It was around the time we were collating the list of Ph1 v Ph2 differences. There's an article on that somewhere that I put together...let me have a look.

Here is the article.

Unfortunately I refer to exhaust detail that I knew Sparkie had added in an unconnected thread but that never got copied across. D'oh.

Here we go Trev. A better pic to explain what I meant by flare.

Unfortunately the fit of the exhaust is shite so we never got it all on today. The middle pipe just won't fit over the downpipe so I've had to take it home and try to relieve a bit of metal from inside the pipe.

The phase 1/2 differences are: different hanger on the underside of the car for the middle pipe and the ph1 rear box mounts with two prongs by the tailpipe where as the ph2 is just one.

Ah. Good info. :) :agree:

Tail pipe looks cool. Not sure I've ever seen one like that. The devil one is like a trumpet shape from tip to tail :agree:
