Think you can buy a sealing kit complete mate! Ask mike at gt turbo spares :-)

Just buy some sump sealer from your local motor factors.

I found it was good practise to re tap and new bolts too as a couple of mine snapped after putting back on and was a constant pain after I re installed the engine..

Well worth as has been said cleaning out all the thread holes in the block and using new bolts when it goes back on.

Any oil resistant sealant will do the job.

Goes without saying make sure the mating surfaces are spotlessly clean and free from oil residue. One of the best ways to do this is to leave the oil to completely drain out of the block for a few days, even then you won't get it all out unless you can turn the block upside down.

Use the half moon seals but don't do what it says in the Haynes and leave them free from sealant. just use a good bead of sealant all around the lip on the sump, liberal is best but be careful as to much will mushroom out when you bolt the sump back on and you will end up with a sump full of sealant blocking the pickup from the oil pump.:disagree:

not the best pic but it gives you an idea of the size of the bead, I use a thin one and zigzag it all the way round the sump.

If your doing it with the engine in the car then you will also need to bend the lip of
the subframe at the front so you can get to the bolts and get the sump off the block.

It's a bit of a ballache when the engine is in the car, I have probably re-sealed mine maybe 7-8 times over the years, even now they sometimes don't seal properly when done with the engine in situe, really hard offering the sump up to the block around the oil pump without disturbing the bead of sealant. On the engine stand its really easy and mine have never leaked when done out of the car. :agree:

leave the sealant at least overnight before filling with oil.

If I can add to this from my own experience and of helping others:

Make sure the sump has not been damaged from overtightening.

Make sure the block and sump contact faces are clean.

Replace both half moon seals. Make sure the contact surfaces are clean.

USE WURTH sealent. It sets firm like rubber until the mating surfaces are joined then goes off. The crap from your local motor factors probably wont seal.

Do follow the haynes method of applying the sealent....it works.

DO NOT overtighten the bolts. Tighten untill a uniform amount of sealent is seen moving out of the mating surfaces.
