Steering wheel control clio rs

Right then ladies I'm having some trouble with a Bluetooth head unit for my clio rs200. I bought what halfords believe are all the correct bits and pieces to get it work but I have come across a problem with the steering wheel remote.

Now I'm no engineer (oh shit I am) but even I can tell they're not going work. Now I'm assuming that the jack has a live and an earth. So could I cut it off and wire the live to the remote from the head unit or will it not work? Have halfords sold me the wrong bit?

Hi looking at your instructions the jack pin fitting goes in to the back of the head unit and that steering control wire is not used as you have bought the kit instead to replace were the wire would hsve gone on the controls .

I can't see anywhere on the back of the headunit for it to plug into though
