View Full Version : car height
HI Guys, Want to get my 5 back to std height does anyone know what the std height is from ground to wheel arch front and back.
Is there anyone got a std height car who can take a measurement for me, would be much appreciated.
What I done was put standard front together and then adjust height at rear till looks right
In the haynes manual under the suspension part it gives you the measurment for the rear torsion bar. Fronts should just be a case of standard springs and shocks. Unless you have coilovers fitted.

Charlie, if your car is lowered can you not just increase the height by the amount its lowered??

The car was nearly trailing the ground when I bought it so no idea what it was lowered by. I stripped the car for restoration, full mechanical and body including the rear axle, I am almost finished after 3 years, just to set height at rear. I have put 35mm lowering springs in the front so I was looking to match that up at the back, that's why I was looking to know the height of a std one so I had some sort of measurement to go by. I have tried to raise the height but when I prise down on the trail arm to get a height and put the torsion bars in the arms spring back up again. What am I doing wrong ? this is the first time I have ever worked with torsion bars, no idea what Iam doing.

To keep the trailing arm in place have a look in the haynes manual it shows a "special tool" you use to adjust the ride height. It's basically a bit of threaded rod with some angle brackets bolted in between the damper mounts in a way that you can move the nut up and down the rod to hold the bar at the correct distance. use it on both sides, I did it on mine and only used it one side and put the bar back in both sides and one side was a bit lower than the other when i put the car back on its wheels.
I just so happen to have my Haynes manual with me today so these pictures might help you:
