Apologies for the amount of photo's I take.. I've copied the entire thread from Cliosport.net so it's quite an introduction :ashamed:
However, that's what projects are all about !?
The misses and I have owned a tidy Trophy spec 172 in Flame Red, an immaculate DCI 100 with lots of extras, and a Liquid Yellow 182 (I still miss this car). I enjoyed driving each one of them and said one day I would get myself one at some point, and here we are.

So after a bit of a deal and cash my way the exchange was made, and the car was finally away from that ridiculous 'Swapz' website where most of it's wreckage came from :disagree:
Fairwell to my Ibiza Cupra, owned it twice and spent a fortune on re-painting it etc but time for a bit of RenaultSport again!

A huge amount more happened in this clutch / gearbox process, but very happy to know it's done correctly.
If I had a crane with me, I would of been one mount, or a few bolts away from pulling the whole engine out itself.

Took it to the end of the street and back, speedo working, auto lock kicked in, and things were feeling good apart from the camber was miles out.
So went to pull the wheels off but the passenger side bolts decided to snap..

Renewed the connection with a spare bootlid wiring loom I had (the heated rear screen connection is identical, even has the same colour wire and plastic plug), took the opportunity to extend it a little while I was there

I love the attention to detail, subtle touches and the calm, methodical approach, it's a joy to read.
You just wouldn't guess it by looking at the first pictures but this car was effectively a heap when you took it on. It was like all the mods and repair work in the last 5 years was done to the worst standard possible whilst still allowing the car to stay on the road. I love the attention to detail, subtle touches and the calm, methodical approach, it's a joy to read.
You just wouldn't guess it by looking at the first pictures but this car was effectively a heap when you took it on. It was like all the mods and repair work in the last 5 years was done to the worst standard possible whilst still allowing the car to stay on the road. I can't believe how much restoration has been required. What joker was responsible for all that mess!

I must admit I could of got a far better car, ended up viewing this one 2-3 times before commiting to a cash my way deal. The first viewing I told myself not to touch it.. however I looked into its history etc and could not walk away from it, I loved it was Glacier White.
I found another White 1.2 with 'Full 172 conversion' in Wales however the owner never came back to me. A few months later I seen it in my area.. IN A LOCAL SCRAP YARD, couldn't believe my eyes, full of big problems and huge wiring issues.. lucky escape for me I think, I seen this as a sign mine was better after all :laugh:
Agreed pictures can be hugely deceiving.. I mean look at my other thread of my 5 GTT.. that was worse.. more on that later ;)
Thanks for the praise, I got the car last November so it's been a busy 6 months or so, need to get those Speedline Turini's sorted out so the 5 can have its wheels back! :eek:

I was close to painting my GTT in Glacier but decided against it last minute as didn't see many black ones and wanted to keep it original. Won't see many Glacier Clio's like mine ;)

I've been wanting to itch my event scratch for many years, in more ways than one, shows, track time etc
Problem is with track time is that I've just had a load of bits painted and this car isn't really track spec. The way I've done it is for a nice daily, fast road if you like?
The interior on these fall out easy enough so perhaps an afternoons work and I could run it round Mallory and put my work to the test :laugh:

Nice car fella, looking minty fresh & getting well and truly stuck in! Had a 172 cup as a daily for 5 1/2 years, awesome car however soon had loads of miles on so sold in place of a low miler 172 full fat that ive still got as a daily until 'trophy fund' matures ;)

Wasn't happy with the blue induction / reducer adaptor set up, thought I wouldn't be happy with anything other than the BMC CDA, until I tried this out..
KTR's induction kit, in black, which fitted the bill perfectly :)

The engine was becoming a little unhappy in the mornings, engine code of pre-cat lambda sensor.
Went for a direct to OE plug Bosch fitment one, came with the plastic fitting clip and pre-greased

Passenger side I had to use a lump hammer to remove for 25 minutes, hard, didn't feel great, then the bearing let go of itself

Spent some good time cleaning this up while it was extended out fully with small wire brushes and good glass paper and smoothing then whacked in a seal of copper grease to get it going again

However was asked a couple of things before they did the advisories on the computer:
1: Exhaust system isn't a standard item - ORLY?
2: Handbrake only just efficient - Put this down to the new brakes, he agreed they had not even worn in yet
3: Xenons - Asked if I fitted them and because I had did, these were 'retro fitted' so no washers came from factory, so would pass?
4: Modified rear brake compensator - Cup rear brake set up lol
5: Suspension is lowered - Oh?
6: Brake pipe corroded - The only real advisory ?!

Was a little overkill.. photobucket fail..
It's my daily so really its more interior bits and pieces, change the wheels back to the 16" Turini's when I grab some tyres etc, and then just maintenance really (engine mounts etc)
No crazy boost, track, stripping out or anything for this car.. if I was doing that I should of kept it like it was when I first got it :laugh:

The pictures do them a bit of a favour TBH.. I'm undecided really, originally planned for Trophy colour but may go slightly darker much like the Williams ones are, or high pearl silver, or even maybe White... However mixed opinions on those two colours!
Tyre dressing was Meguiars :) The clear Hot Tyres or something stuff I think it's called, had a couple of bottles for nearly 3 years now and going strong!

:agree: certainly needed some work however most of it was a pleasure compared to what the 5 needs :laugh: cheers pal!
The mats were just off a seller on eBay, I sent across the logo I wanted and positions etc and arrived within the next day or so :agree: Since then he's been using it on all sorts :laugh:

It amazes me every time I come to read this thread that there are still places that you haven't touched on this car, and also how many things you're still coming across that are broken, damaged, dirty or ill-fitted from the past!
That steering wheel is absolutely beautiful and is styled perfectly for this car, what an improvement on the tatty original. And I love the freshening of the dials and clock/radio displays. Like an OE upgrade rather than a chavvy mod.
I can't wait for the next instalment. :agree:
Edit: btw, what is that rectangular CS thing clipped into the recess of the glovebox tray?

Found a permanent fix for the rear fog light illuminating when you brake, tried new bulb holders, cleaned up the connections, but bending the earth pin worked a treat... ignore the old dial colour photo... It's been doing it for a while!

Replaced the low pressure PS pipe for a non perished one with brackets, replaced the high pressure Renault PS sensor as mine started leaking, cleaned the filter and some Renault PS fluid

Wheels look fantastic, they suit the car so well.
Chris, I can't think of what else you could to the exterior to improve it from a styling perspective. It's perfect from my lay point of view and the best looking Clio I've ever seen. :)
What are your remaining jobs/tweaks for the rest of the car?

:smokin: cheers Trev, I have put together around 5/6 to do lists from the start, made what I consider a final one now, A4 sheet, which is a bit of engine bay painting and maintenance bits, then body work in places, dents and chips alongside a mirror cap I've scuffed being in a rush :cry:
Nothing that will be much different looks wise in the scheme of things :smokin:

Indeed, I worked it out to be between the L and the I on the Speedline to draw a line, then line that up to the right hand side of the spoke, opposite the valve

I do like the V6 / Trophy spoiler however cannot justify £300-400 plus paint for one, plus my car is a Cup so the spoiler stays! :cool:
