So iv gave up the idea of a 5 for a daily what good standard motors are out there for £2000-£3000 right now I was thinking of a 182 or something? Fun but I need it reliable

nail and head hit mate, I run a 182 daily and its been faultless for 19k. just service it when needed.

mines on 122k now as well. :)

Why spend that much? My 172 is not the best, hasn't been looked after cosmetically but is mechanically sound, just wants the top mounts doing at some point and only needed service items like rear pads, handbrake cables etc for its last mot. 10mths mot, 4mths tax, 72k on the clock. Recon I could only get £800 for it!

Edit : for £900 I'd do the top mounts and deliver it to your door ;)

Whilst the GTT can be a reliable work horse once up to scratch and good fun too, the older you get, the more attractive it is to get a cheap modern car for everyday use and keep the GTT for kicks. :agree:

Almost endless options at 2-3k, the list would be too long to write out. Are you after fun, economy, build quality, anonymity?

I drive 18miles to work so not fussed about economy really (the gt is going no were for now) iv always loved a good looking motor so needs to be clean (wheels lowered etc) but I do like a good sprint on the B roads to work.

I'd get a 172/182 mate, great little car to drive and they are dirt cheap to pick up now.
I just sold mine for £1000 and that was faultless for the time i had it

advantage to the 172/182 as well is cheaper to buy (bottom of budget) and when it does go wrong, cheap as chips to sort

better by what measure, my point is he's going to be stretching budget to get a good one, and then by having to save a few quid on initial purchase, its going to cost when it goes wrong, which with all cars it does

where as by sticking to Renault you have the advantage of parts that fit both cars, and a familiar source of information.

Only my opinion mate but

Looks better
More power
The 3 litre 6 cylinder engine sounds awesome
Fully loaded inside, mine has full leather interior with heated electric seats, integrated sat nav and TV, cruise control etc
Make sure you buy a good one and look after it and they don't cost you that much
Bigger so more practical, boot on it is massive

I do get your point though, you will have to spend at least £1500 extra to get a good one

Coops
03-04-2014, 22:28
precisely, that's double the price, a massive difference

and as you say its in your opinion, I think they look like all German snore barges, lol! and the power means nothing as it weighs a load more so all it means is goes round corners worse and gets worse mpg ;) but spose that's the flip side of the coin, that's imo :)

I kinda wish I'd gone for an e36 as I've had to weld the diff on my e46

The E36 318is with LSD was a great laugh, till it ended sideways into the Nurburgring barrier :wasntme:

But I find the drive the E46 much nicer and handles better, maybe the tyres did make a bit of difference.

Thanks for the thought I need something a bit more modern in my life.. Most of the reason I hate my 5 at the min is because I depend onit.. Getting a newer motor might restore my 5 love I need to leave it alone for a while..

There is a few of us down here that cover quite an area between us with homes and work, if you spot something you like then it might be worth posting it up on here and if one of us are close enough maybe someone could give it a once over to potentially save you a wasted journey.... For the money, your silly not to consider the EP3 Type R, regardless of hear say. :agree: Look at the boot space, reliability, build qty, spare parts flooded on eBay etc, unbelievable tuning capabilities, I mean, it's not like you can trash a vtec engine if its made to be red line and great on MPG to even if you want to drive like a hooligan.

Well the mrs has finaaly come to her senses and decided shes not going back to work yet and instead going to become a full time house mum so the bmw is out the question. So now its time to look at 1.0 lol but that now frees up cash to go adaptronic on the 5 :) an leaves money for a well deserved and over timed holiday for us and the kids..

More desirable and sell for more, red always sell for less and hard to sell colour with these cars. :agree: Mileage sounds low for an 02. Get the log book ref number (or ref number off the last MOT it's got.) and do an online MOT history check, will show up the mileage for the last five or so MOT's, makes it easier to spot clocking plus can see what it's failed or been advisory on each time over the last few years so good indication of how it's been looked after or if same problems persist aswell as heads up where to check first when giving it a look over.

Full Fat is what you want mate, don't overpay for a cup ;)

£2800 full flocked dash with carbon inserts new brakes all round just two stone chips and one slight ding. Apart from that is pretty tidy It's been re mapped with pop bangs lol (that will piss the mrs off)

Not a bad motor all belts done 10000 ago it's the orangey color one lol

Young dude really is heart broken to sell it

They aren't turbo charged but I've always liked the Lupo and Polo Gti's. Not sure they fit your bill to be honest and they are a bit cutesy but I like them :D

Ignis sport is fun, revvy, good handling, bulletproof, cheap as chips and bloody awesome fun, Nowt wrong with a 5gtt as a daily like my classic mini daily driver older cars tend to be less hassle used regularly.

I might get shot down for this, Skoda Fabia VRS tdi. Mine was standard other than a remap and was on around 180bhp, cheap to insure, tax, good mpg and surprised those who don't know of them.

Mine was the black one
