Well Guys & Girls its that time of year again when people start talking about a trip to the Ring.

This year things have not been made easy for us brits as the Germans have made the opening hours at the ring abit crap... basically most weekends it closed friday, open for 2 hours in the evening on saturday, open all day on sunday and 2 hours in the evening on mondays.

Thus meaning very little point doing a long weekend away, but also means for the few hours they are open it could be very busy.

Now we have a choice, do we do a small trip over in the April/May time or wait til September/October/November and do a big jolly.

I am happy to arrange as many trip for people as you wish even if i do not go myself.

But here are the Dates for April/May
Right, now looking the ring calander the dates for weekends are like this

April

Friday 10th 08:00 - 19:30
Saturday 11th 17:30 - 19:30
Sunday 12th 08:00 - 19:30
Monday 13th 08:00 - 19:30

Now this weekend is easter weekend so people would/could be off work... but then again ring & hotels will be busy... and there is also "AvD Racemeeting" which is translated into this.

"Also in the season 2009 the successful AvD race is continued weekends. Again six meetings are planned, which will begin on 10 April 2009 on the Nürburgring. Beside Hockenheim and Oschersleben also again running in Dijon and Monza are delivered. As partner series the DMV route car Challenge (earlier Divinol Cup) could be won, Dutch Supercar Challenge, CFFC formula Ford Competition, STM SWISS Pirelli of Masters, car picture Caterham Academy, Renault=2 0Clio Cup, formula Renault Switzerland, Porsche Swiss Cup, HTGT, interseries, HISTO Cup and SCC of sport Car Challenge. And also some partners are certain with AvD"

This could be interesting to watch..

Other dates are

Saturday 18th 17:30 - 19:30
Sunday 19th 08:00 - 19:30
Monday 20th 17:15 - 19:30

Saturday 25th 17:30 - 19:30
Sunday 26th 08:00 - 19:30
Monday 27th 13:30 - 19:30

this weekend also has a Porsche Cup weekened at the main track so it could also be busy...

May

Friday 1st - Closed
Saturday 2nd 17:30 - 19:30
Sundery 3rd 08:00 - 19:30
Monday 4th 17:15 - 19:30

This is the 1st bank holiday in the UK... could make things busy ring and traffic wise on the way home.

Saturday 9th 17:30 - 19:30
Sunday 10th 08:00 - 19:30
Monday 11th 13:00 - 19:30

Sunday 17th 09:15 - 19:30
Monday 18th 13:00 - 19:30
(A good lot of track time and perhaps some classic cars out on track)

Now also this weekend there is "Internationales O ldtimer Festival" which is "Highlight for fans of classical cars and motorcycles: The Int. 27. Old timer festival on the Nürburgring lures also in the coming season at its traditional date, the last June weekend, friends of the historical engine haven into the Eifel. Of 15. to 17. Again well 1,000 starters on two, three and four wheels exciting run Action offer May 2009. The range of the assigned vehicles is enough again from Vorkriegs classical authors from the time of the turn of the century - who will explore in the so-called „Vintage “the north and south loop of the tradition course - up to route, sport and formula cars as well as running motorcycles and bottom plates, of the 50's 60's, 70's and 80's."

Friday 22nd Closed
Saturday 23rd Closed
Sunday 24th Closed
Monday 25th Closed
This is the Last bank Holiday in the UK.

Friday 29th 17:15 - 19:30
Saturday 30th 13:00 - 19:30
Sunday 31st 08:00 - 19:30
Monday 1st 08:30 - 19:30
(Best weekend for full on track time but expect a lot of biker's)

Also this weekend is the Int. German motorcycle championship at the main track.

Also as you saw from the text i sent most people are happy to go else where other than gunters... the hotel in Adenua itself looks like the winner as its in town and over looks the track and is about 10 Euros per night more expensive... everybody is also happy with Norfolkline as it is by far the cheapest & closer to the track.

Now then Price for Norkolkline in normally £60, although i havent checked for every weekend available but i would expect the bank holiday's to be more.

What are peoples thoughts regarding a April/May Ring trip?

As you already know im busy a lot of the weekends, but whatever is best, ill see if I can make it really. Plus money as well, got a stag do long weekend beginning of May which might kill the bank balance a bit. Start saving I guess :)

I know money is going to be tight for most people, and seeing any alot of the ring regulars have there name down for cadwell it may make a april/may ring trip out of the question, hence why i said perhaps its best for an october trip.

But if enough people say yes i want to do a early in the year jolly i will happily plan it... as you can see from above the best track time would require people to have a few days off work, but its upto you guys.

I know that if i am quiet tho in may and have a bit of spare cash i may just do a ring trip on my own and invite you guys to tag along but it wouldnt be much notice...

Its really upto to what every body else wants to do... but we do kinda need to get going if we want a jolly for april/may.

Millie & i would be up for a Sep/Oct trip & would like to go for a few days longer to take in a bit more of Germany (read beer) :D

Is the ring open during the week so we could go on a Wed for example & have a Thursday there???

What's the craic with the Ring reducing the time allowed on track then???

Way too much beer each night. Dont know how I managed to drive to Köln that morning. Well worth the visit though especially as the track was closed all morning, got back just after it opened so no time wasted really :) think go-kart track is well worth finding out there just for an race

Well for a later in Sept/Oct jolly the ring is open more evening in mid week rather than full days but the odd Wednesday or Thursday is half day/full day.

Currently the ring is cutting back on opening hours as more corporate events are going on... more testing for the motor industry (even in the current economic climate)

Atm the calender is not full for September or october so pointless trying to work out any dates yet... the calender will be full within the next few weeks.

I am sure we can do 2 groups one group doing a "long weekend" the other group doing longer period of timebut as long as the 2 group over lap it will be good. A few people have mentioned doing Stelvio Pass again but does involve alot of driving!
