Alright ive recently fitted a new fuel tank and since then ive had problems with the fuel pump, I dont know for sure if this is related as the car runs intermittently, at the moment it wont start at all, I dont seem to be getting any power to the fuel pump with the ignition on, if I run 2 wires from the battery a positive and a negative the pump spins and I get fuel, this afternoon a got a shot of another fuel pump relay and nothing seems to have changed, any ideas im about to give up

the relays do give probs...............I think its the orange wire which is the signal to the relay that the engine is running or cranking

I think my car has every colour of wire In it lol (seen to many cowboys) I'll try and trace them back and let use know how I get on thanks

Check the wire from tdc sensor to the aei.
After you turn the engine over you should hear the pump still running for a second or two.

Does the fuel pump work when you crank the car?

Just putting the ignition on won't opperate the fuel pump

Ok ive been at it today again, it looks like someone has in the past joined the white wire fuel pump with the yellow ignition live, ive checked the joins and they have been soldered so good joins, the car did statt earlier and ticked over on my drive, I was going to take it a drive and when I was reving it it was cutting out, any ideas

Is it safe to connect the live fuel pump wire to ignition live, instead of coming from the relay ? I'm having trouble with the wiring on my pump (another thread)

I ended up running new wiring from the fuel pump, I soldered the live onto terminal of the relay and wired a new earth onto the shell in the drivers foot well when you put the plastics back on you cant see any of it, i also drilled a new hole for the wiring just above the old gromit and purchased a rubber to fit the hole from halfords, just make sure you dont drill into the fuel tank, its running better than ever now, it was easy with a bit off direction over the phone from jonathon smith, im sure he will be a member on here, failing that you will find him on the face book site, he was happy to help

I personally wouldn't, in my eyes there is a safety reason why Renault put the relay in there ;)

If the wiring is looking alittle iffy I would repair the wiring to how it was wired from factory

That's the plan, just need to know which is the relay

The fuel pump relay is normally the grey 6pin one that sits behind the fuse box, think its 6pin but only use's 5 wires to it

Can you look at the pic and see which one?

You see in the top right of the pic thise curved wires bunched together (yellow, red, black, grey, white), that's the wires for the relay.
Looks like its been tucked up above the fuse box
