hello folks
basically i contacted the good man boris about a downpipe.
long story short he told me if there was enough interest he would possible maybe contemplate think about making another batch
:)
so just out of interest would anyone be interested ?
if so whack your name down and maybe we can persuade the good man to grace our cars with his finest pieces.

Is everyone aware of how much it will cost given the quality and workmanship involved?

Hate to see everyone sign on then back out once they hear how much.

Either way I have also spoken to Boris myself, count me in:

bit of quick info for the unaware(like me)
:)
handmade turbo elbow/down pipe by boris (bms)
from what i gather it has a bigger bore which will allow as frix said gases to escape quicker resultin in less back pressure resulting in happy times
lambda sensor hole already built in for the use of lm-1/lc-1 or any other wideband or air fuel meter you got.

i thought theyd be a bit more than 130 but i cant say for sure...if so i dont mind but al guess we have to wait until the time comes

I wouldn't mind one, but i've got a .64 back end, which uses a different stud pattern. I'll have to check to see if it's the same as the .49, I can't remember. All I remember is I had to use the mill to modify the casing so the stock elbow would fit on.

It's nice to see people are still intrested in the one-peice downpipe I created a year or so ago, at the time it was enjoyable making them.
On the last batch I made the prices of the laser cut flanges had increased, and the d/p price reflected that, the cheapest I could make them now would be around 160/170.
That's taking into account the laser cut flanges, mandrell bent pipe, lambda b+b, p+p, time taken to make ect.. Unfortunatly I can't sell them for any cheaper.

Anyways, it seems http://www.rtoc.org/boards/member.php?u=765 is ready to make a few using the jig from the 'msm' day's, sound's intresting as the one I saw looked nice. Im not in a rush to make any more so see what Jim is saying. (including pics/price?) If there any good im sure it will sort out the few people wanting a downpipe upgrade.
And is Scott K making some more 3" downipes?

i would say all depends on how many we get made, the more the cheaper! :D

Bms downpipes don't get cheaper the more you buy as it still takes the same amount of time to make each one.

Mind you, If Big Jim can knock em' out for a possible tonne+ with nice quality then it must be a win-win for the buyer.

Thanks for the kind words Boris (about the pipe that is!!). I've mentioned on another thread that if I get a minimum of 10 confirmed orders then I will make a batch for 150 squids each. They are a bit of work, but lucky for you lot I've just found a VERY reasonable supplier for laser cut flanges. PM me if you're interested.

PS I could also make them any size you want (for a supplement, of course!). The problem is the bottom joint which (unless you're having a custom sytem as well) will always be limited to 2 1/2".

or is that system?!

1 question,im sure i read that they come with a hole for an AFR sensor or something and i dont have an AFR gauge...im not too hot on technical stuff so are the pipes supplied with these holes or is it just a case of a pm saying (no holes please) to the maker or would i have to get some kind of bung to plug the hole up?

I've seen the amount of time and care that goes into these, and the hassle, i can see why Boris isnt in a massive hurry to make any more as there cant be a lot of profit in it once you add up the materials + the hours spent on each one... just look at the finish on the hand formed 3 peice snake head in S/Steel... they are amazing quality bits of kit:)

Thanks Al, yes, like i've said it's nice to know people are still wanting them.
But to me it's strange to see a group buy on a batch of downpipe's as i've never said that im deffo. going to make any more:confused:
Gauging intrest from others to try and persuade me to make more is fair enough, appreciated, but in a dragon's den stylee 'im out'
So just to clear things up, if for some reason I was to make more in the future I will make it known on the boards, please no more pm's about downpipes. Thanks.

So it seems Jim is the only option right now?, is there enough intrest to make a batch yet Jim?
Im unsure if it was you who made the msm d/p I saw all that time ago, but it did look nice and I liked the idea of the pipe being bent in one peice.
Perhaps some pics could be supplied to get more people intrested? Like the clearence when fitted to the car, how the pipe is welded/shaped to the flange?
No offence intended Jim, im sure your work is good, but im sure pic's/more info would help people commit to buy your d/p... but as it is, its an unknown.

I'm afraid I haven't got any pics, but as has been said, someone must have one. It wasn't THAT long ago I made them...

I am loathe to make one or two, because it means making the flanges by hand and that is just a pain in the 'arris. Sorry to be mercinary but it's simply a question of cost. Buying just a couple of bends and making flanges means it all works out more expensive.

Hope someone's got some pics, then maybe I'll have enough orders to make it happen.

I hope it's been worth the wait, but here it is. 2 1/2" o/d, flanges on this one are MS 'cos I wasn't making them out of stainless by hand (if you've never worked with it, it's nasty stuff!). The "production" version will have all laser cut stainless flanges and any bosses you want, anywhere you want them!

145114521453

£150 +p&p. Once we've enough interest, we can sort out deposits and get the ball rolling.

If anyone wants one with a non std flange you'll need to let me have a template so I can see if the flange I have made can be universal, otherwise I'm afraid it'll have to incur a cost.

I like it Jim. My only question is I am running a T25 pinched from a Rover 220, The T2 elbow fits but I can only use 3 of the 4 bolts. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this turbo so how much extra will the downpipe be to sort this?

Big Jim

I used to have a template of the t25 flange but it was only thin card and I think it's disintegrated. I'm pretty sure though that the flange can be made universal, in which case there will be no difference in cost.

Once there's enough interest (ie deposits received - I've been around too long to take anybodies word on orders!!) then I shall crack on.

There's easily enough interest for things to get going. I'll PM everyone who's said they definately want one, anyone else let me know and get your £50 deposits to me (contact details on my website http://www.bigjimracing.co.uk (http://www.bigjimracing.co.uk/))

Once I've enough deposits to cover costs, then I think 2-3 weeks to delivery is about right to get the flanges cut and the pipes made. PLEASE bear in mind though that I'm moving to new premises next week and have a ridiculous amount of work to do setting up.

Hello people, could anyone who's interested get their deposits to me; paypal (jim@bigjimracing.co.uk), cheque or even cash is acceptable!! A number have paid and it's not fair on them to keep them hanging on....

Thanks to all who have paid deposits, or have let me know they can't take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime(!?!) offer.

Unfortunately, some have been a little reticent in paying and until they do this is on hold. I really don't like holding onto peoples deposits but my position was made clear in the beginning.

I am looking forward to getting on with making these, it's just a shame some are holding things up for others...

No probs Jim I am not in a big rush for it and fair to say you did make your position clear at the start. How does the term go 'put your money where your mouth is' appears some are not :p

Cheers for the update.

i believe its coming in either a t2/t25 turbo flange, and a t28 flange mate, just specify which you are after before ordering :).

All this talk of flange hey , i best get to bed!

There is a guy local to me who is a very good fabricator, ive had a lot of work done by him before and its always been spot on , as has a few other people i know. If the demand is still there i could maybe speak to him about making some of these up. Im pretty sure if he does he will require a deposit of some sort before he will carry out the work.

If people that are interested get a post up i could have a word with him at the weekend.

just following on from this thread aswell.

The downpipes that jim previously supplied, do they fit bith the t2/t25 and the t3. as in like a universal flange.

or was there two seperate flanges, either the t2/t25 adn then a diffrent one for the t28 / t3

Boris

Il toujours possible d'avoir la down pipe avec la connexion lambda?= Oui.

Est il que vous voulez la partie avant du 'sous car' pot d'échappement?

Est il que vous voulez la partie parenthèse de bride?

Tous les deux?
