Just wondered what are your views on these conversions into a 5, is it worth it for good reliable power, I've looked in Tech section at what parts are needed but wondered what sort of cost is involved from you guys who have already done it. Looked at engine dynamics at there engine builds, anyone had and dealings with them?
Cheers

Well worth doing this conversion, almost did it myself to my 5
Cost all depends on what route you go with ecu and spec the engine up, some have done it very cheap with good results some have spent a fair bit with huge bhp numbers
The Engine Dynamic builds are quite good, know of a few in cars which have held up well, i personally like to build it all myself instead of a firm but thats just me :)

Cheers mark, I'm no mechanic so would defo need help with the build, do the lumps go in the 5 without much fettling?
Putting an f lump into a 5 is the easy bit really! Only real effort is wiring, other than that it's almost fit and forget.
To start of, what is your goal? That would be the key point really

250-300bhp more drivability and dare I say it abit more reliable, but above all just a change really. Love the character of the old lump but would love over 200bhp without ringing the sh*t out of it lol

Also you will have to think about clutch and gearbox to as when you start running good power boxes might start giving up :)

Coops on here has a bb tuning conversion and it goes well and seems reliable and as far as i remember he has a chipped ecu :) dependant on spec of engine it can be done quite cheaply :)

What box do ppl tend to use on this conversion
Easiest and what appears to be strongest would be the phase 1 / cup clio 172 gearbox (JC5) though you do need to change the clocks so you get a speedo to work.

I done the conversion a few years back myself great conversion I pretty much copied the BB tuning spec, was reliable and fun to drive, drops pretty much straight in, just front engine mount bracket needs modding hardest part was the wiring as I used a chipped phase 1 valver ecu and loom, power wise it must have been 250bhp+ I was still on the c1j box and shafts and it felt good. Quiet a few peeps are doing this conversion at present I can think of 3 other's whom have not advised on the boards yet

Well i ran 375bhp on my original jb3 box and it held on the rollers fine ;) just had 5th gear come loose on the way home so i did an 02m vw box swap ;) i think up to 300 bhp you might be ok for a while as long as you are not being silly. Turbo ted ran an uprated jc5 box at 500bhp and it lasted a while ;)

There is a list somewhere of all the parts needed for the conversion then once you have the list you can work out prices :)
here is a thread/list that James5 did a few years ago

Enough to find in the f7p/r conversion section, projects section and clio turbo section.
Should get you going!
If it interests you I have a r19 16v which has had a turbo conversion and forged internals that I'm selling soon, you could use that as a doner car as it has everything you will need.
