View Full Version : battery tray
like most battery trays mine is toast,
so instead of paying £40 odd i thought i would make my own,
the main tray is done and so is 2 of the 3 brackets, the third is drawn out but hasnt been cut, then willl make the clamp,
going to weld the brackets to the tray then spray it black or maybe tungsten grey.
the original battery fits nicely
looking at the photo, it doesnt look square but, i have measured it and it is.
ive left one of the hole out of the design (one of the bulkhead mounts)

Nice fabrication work, you do that sort of thing for a living at a guess?
Im currently making an aluminium one, if people are interested i can make them up.. Will add pics once iv got round to doing it
I did think about an aluminium tray but have never welded aluminium,
Fabrication is not something I normally do but I'm always willing to give it a go, I bought a welder a while ago and enjoy making bit when I can,
Its also the satisfaction of doing a job yourself, like the welding on my car,
Always worth trying mate rather than pay how much for one :)
Like it.. DIY rocks:agree:
i went to weld it together today but had ran out of gas, will post some pics once done, my next project is to fab some jacking points, just taken the one side off, doesnt look too hard, but time will tell
Perhaps a big cheeky:D
But if you do fabricate a jacking point, would you mind taking some measurements and dimensions please??
I've got use of machinery at work and would like to get some made up for mine:D:agree:
i can take some measurements from the jacking point i have taken if you like? or if you message me your email address i will send you pics with the measurements

Not cheap though £68 was there last listed price. They are the last few I have as Renault stopped selling them a while back.

great bit of fab work there! might be worth drilling some water drain holes to stop water pooling in the bottom and rusting it away again.
