Gents,

Ive currently got the meg 225 head off, looking at a full forged setup.

My dilemma is that i am thinking of head work (port job, matching etc), as im looking at quite a bit of boost and using some spiky cams.

Then i looked at the bank balance!

Im thinking of leaving it now and just building the lot up and see what the limits are. Of course if it was N/A i would just save and have it done, but a forced lump?

Opinions please :agree:

Buy a saving stamp every week from the co-op.
In 3 years you'll have enough. :D

It really depends on the head, Eg. Cossie heads are good from the off so porting etc. doesnt really make a difference. Converting an N/A car to turbo you may see a big difference. Id have the head looked at by someone in the know who isnt just going to say "yeah it will make a massive difference"

What power are you aiming for Matt ?

I have seen evidence of a 3071GTX equipped f4r from a 225 running cams that ran 450bhp. Needed head work and released 50 horses.

Cheers Andy. When paul rs tuning ran 500+ was that on a stock head?

Ok. I was sure specky and paul advertised that on stock head and stock inlet plenum. It was quite an achievement at the time I remember?

Let me double check that mate. I am sure his 450odd bhp r26r was on stock head and inlet.

That engine was removed from the R and placed in a regular r26 and then modified again.

any reason why you're not fitting a 172 or 197 head? Do you have a spare head? I can flow test the inlet, not sure when though (hence spare).

Andy,

Only reason is i havent a 172 head. The 225 head is in good condition too.

I havent a spare Meg 225 head although im really interested in the differences. Its probably not as bad as most seem to think.

I've got a couple big-port 172 heads with covers, I've switched to 197 with the new engine so they're no good as spares anymore. Take one if you think you'll use it matt. Inlet manifold is going to be different though ?
