Has anyone been keeping up on this seasons testing so far and the "anteater" noses?

Seems like the vehicle thats done the most laps and got the most information on is the hiab recovery. Red bull, caterham, sauber and torro rosso failing to complete many laps.

Jenson buttons helmet is a nice touch to his fathers recent passing.

Already looks like Adrian Newy is complaining about the styles being prone to submarining in the event of an accident. Or does it sound like sour grapes as the new turbocharged renault RB10 clearly doesn't cut the mustard as much as the Ferrari, Maclaren and Mercedes?
Adrian Newey would be an absolute legend, if only he'd move to a team I like, or maybe even if RB just replaced Vettel.
Other than odd noses and a narrower rear wing the cars don't look that different tbh. The real changes are under the hood, as it were.
Also the sound is quite different, more throaty, no high-end scream. I like it.

Didn't floor pan aerodynamics ie F-duct ect get outlawed this season too?
I was reading the lotus' s twin pronged frontage has a duct that runs through the car possibly to the turbo cold side or for cooling. Certainly some clearly new aerodynamic changes.
Williams were like a metronome today which isn't a bad thing they've been off the top for far too long.
I liked how they sent the "muck spreader" bowsers of water out for the wet and intermediate testing this morning, clever people!
Oh yeah, there are tons of rule changes that affect the outside of the cars. I just meant that to the casual eye, other than the noses, there's nothing to call revolutionary.
What we want to see is a caravan-type jockey wheel at the very front to stabilise that low nose. Now that would be a big change

Nice thread :) I've had it on live update all day in work :scared: It's also on Sky in the evenings.
Wow, the cars are ugly looking this year! The worst of them being the Caterham. The Ferrari looks like a hoover (as SB put it) some cars look like they've got a dildo stuck on the front! They certainly sound different - a lot quieter. I haven't fully made my mind up if I like the sound. Have you heard them under braking when the ERS starts harvesting? Very odd!
There's been quite a lot of breakdowns which is no surprise. Vettle only managed about 8 laps I think it was today. I beleive the turbo went on him......
Here is the Caterham with one fitted. More wind-tunnel time required.

4. Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) 1:25.588, 97 laps
5. Sergio Perez (Force India) 1:28.376 , 37 laps
6. Esteban Gutierrez (Sauber) 1:33.270, 53 laps
7. Marcus Ericsson (Caterham) 1:37.975, 11 laps
8. Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) 1:38.320, 8 laps

I think the sound is amazing better than the v8s. More normal motorsport sounding, the revovery units sound almost like a version of wastegate chatter!
Ted Kravitz has got a 20 minute video circulating on sky every couple of hours about the rules changes which is definitely an eyopener. Apparently Red bull have designed the radiators, wider housings for them for the rest of the field for the FIA.
Rear wing looks.so flimsy with the center spines missing, even the ncameras for this season are removed from above the driver to parallel with the front wheels on a aerodynamic bracket.

I doubt you'll hear the energy recovery under braking as that isn't much different to last year, it's more likely to be turbo related stuff; bypass, wastegate etc
Sounds very different IMO I like it

I'm liking the sound of them as well. I've only seen a little bit of the testing but to me, the Ferrari sounds very nice indeed

the sound is fine, but I wonder how long it'll take before they don't sound like they're short shifting.

Good point! What are they rev'ing to?

interesting question, it depends....
The rules say maximum 15K, or is it 15K5?, either way, with the fuel flow limited it won't be anything like that, probably under 11K, or holding a bit more if the gearing is wrong (only one set of ratios this year)

They're definitely short-shifting then
I listened to a sound bite ages ago, just as they were all finishing the engines and the first thing that I noticed was how quick they went through the gears.
I think they sound ace, really looking forward to seeing how they all get on when the season starts.
In the words of Barry Scott "you can't beat a bit of turbo power!"
Love the sound they're making!!!
Worth a few minutes of your time.
Cleaver stuff
