Here's a weird one...

When driving around normally the engine temp will increase until the fan kicks in, engine temp reduces, fan switches off, engine temp increases, fan kicks in and so on.....until I park up.

This happens irrespective of the temp or speed travelling at.

I've fitted a new rad, thermostat, rad fan switch and changed the coolant.

Any ideas :confused::confused::confused:

couple of questions , is it all bled up properly with the heater control on the hot position ? These new stat and fan are they the 'uprated low temp ' ones . When i had the low temp stuff the fan was on all the time when driving and as you say it didnt matter wether i was traveling fast or not . Turned out the fan switch was a 64 deg one when i tested it . it was coming on before the stat had even opened . The reason the gauge went up and down was only down to the stat onpening and closing. Hope thats of some help

The heater matrix has been bypassed, the stat is 75 deg and the rad fan switch is standard.

no issues before the renewal?, have you tested the stat and do you have the rad surround still in? That helps no end

Its always done it which doesn't help.

I've not tested the stat as it was brand new, but when the old stat was insitu the problem still existed.

Is the wind deflector fitted at the bottom of the radiator??

I'll have a look for the wind deflector & rad surround in the morning

As the car has been awaken from its under the tree slumber, its time I got this engine temp sorted.

Can someone post a pic of the radiator shroud/air diverter?

I thought the engine is meant to heat up and cool down constantly, isn't that how cooling systems, stats, fans and switches work?

Yes, but despite the airflow over the radiator at any speed (constant or accelerating), the engine temp will reach the level where the fan kicks in. No other R5 GTT i've had does this.
