View Full Version : Calliper fitment issues

Alright guys I brought 285mm discs awhile ago with the callipers and extended brackets to fit.. I was having a look at the fitting them on the weekend as the original ones are old and crusty, after a bit of messing about tho I came to the reality that they won't fit the wheels I have even with 10mm spacers fitted

So just wondering... Is it possible (and safe) to have the calliper "shaved" down

And if not has any one fitted the standard callipers to the 285 discs and know what the minimum offset for a set of wheels needs to be to fit them??

Or any other advise to help me get my wheels fitting nice

Thanks

People have shaved them down to fit different style wheels, just need to be careful what you are cutting down. You need the extenders to fit the big brake conversion so not sure what you mean there as it is standard calipers you do use with these kits.

Ahh true I just meant that most people get the 4 pots when they get bigger discs.. And they might have a different profile than the o.e ones? So i was just asking with normal callipers and the spacers did any one no the offset.. If that makes senesce?

Nice one

i have slandered calipers, bigger discs and the extender bracket. and speedlines. with a 5 mm spacer mate. all works ok.
not sure what the offset is on speedlines.

The Clio turbines are speedlines, which they fit with the big brake conversion, the Renault 19 16v clover leaf style ones don't fit with the conversion. Clio Williams fit as well.

Yeh cool I keep an eye on it.. Just the predicament I'm in.. Is that my old discs are to bad for M.O.T, I've got good discs but there 285's but I dident wanna pay out for new o.e discs just for the M.O.T and then have to pay out for wheels in a month or to down the line and have the discs left over.. I'd rather just pay out once for the right part.. I was only really after a list of wheels that fit with the 285's or ways to make my wheels fit although having a look at mine compared to the ones that do fit, I don't think my wheels would ever fit due to the fact the spokes are set in the dish where as the ones that do fit all seem to have spokes on the furthest outer face of the wheel... It's just a weigh up between the turbines and Williams as ive never been fused on the ronal turbos..

have you test fitted them all together. 285 discs and ur wheels?
you will need this. for the 285 discs.

then depending if ur wheels have a chance of fitting at all you will need spacers.
not sure what thickness.
and longer wheel bolts. :crap:

Yeh I got all that.. I brought 2x 285mm discs 2x front 2x back callipers and the extenders brackets for the front callipers I got it as a set for £120 last year

And what's a safe distance for the regy wheels to be pushed out to.. I had 10mm spacers on and it was still slightly catching.. I feel 15mm might be a bit much?

cool ok. well im not 100% tbh.
i have 5mm. my mate who has dished wheels has 8mm. (he machined 10mm down)
you may need to get some 15mm and get them shaved down a bit. to say 12/13?

unless someone else has the same wheels as you it will be trial and error.

sorry i can give you a 100% answer mate.

Yeh it's cool dude.. It's a bit of a mish mash any way with my wheels.. I had a full set of grey 13" speedlines and 2 lenso rs5's pinched out my garden, and brought a new set of raider 13" speedlines.. But my cars literally on the floor with the 13's so even if I get the lenso's to fit I still have to by another 2 wheels... So I am looking at getting a set of Clio Williams wheels.. The gold dose look nice ;)

Also to ask... Is there any where u can get a threaded bar with the same thread as the wheel nuts? I asked all my local machine shops and the tell me no chance, just thought I'd ask

Thanks again :)

I was just thinking that if I had 2 or 4 threaded bars I could already them into the hub. Then hang the wheel of them.. then maybe just wind a nut down the bar to See if i can gauge it better.. It's a nightmare trying to do it with the disc, 2 sets of spacers and the wheel all with bolts that only just catch
