View Full Version : cam or turbo
That is the question.Im wanting a bit more top end pull from my five.Currently i have a t25/t2 with a 47 rear and a tb22 turbine wheel running 177hp with 20lb boost. To be honest im happy with the power output its just the fact it runs out of puff too low in the revs.Would a t25 with say a 49 rear give me what im after?and would it work with the oe cam?Or would fitting a cam such as the 285 be a better option. Thanks:dearme:

Cam.

Controversial.
Turbo.
When you are on one , you will be higher up the range anyway. Therefore the t25 with decent size rear will be blowing and on song.
the t2/25 will limit the power up the top anyway due to a restrictive back end no matter what cam.
I have spoke to cr turbo and they said they would build me a t25 with a billet comp wheel for £600.I would imagine this is also the cheaper option.:p

That's , er , expensive. Tomcat with 360 bearing FTW.
The cam would be the cheaper option unless your paying for it to be fitted/timed. For me without doubt I would up the size of the blower. ;)
You will definitely notice the difference higher up the revs. :agree:
CR turbos are expensive, but they are built properly. You get what you pay for at the end of the day.
Bigger cam is a biggish job, and it'll run like poo on idle. Mine did with a piper cam.
Bolt a turbo on I'd say, bigger down pipe :agree:
Thanks for that.I think i will go with the blower option.:agree:
I would just go with a bigger blower for now and see how you get on with the change in powerband.
But as you know, the hunger for more power Will always be there so no doubt you ll end up wanting a cam anyway so you get the best from the turbo! :wasntme:

Ideally mate,i want the same characteristics as my current blower but with more top end.:agree

I was waiting for that.:wasntme:
Do both and gain about 50 more bhp. Stop flogging the nads off that small blower lol.
Idle will be fine with a cam in aslong as set up properly.

Yeah and lose a bag of sand plus my gonads after the mrs had finished.lol:D
Up the turbo size then mate. I wouldn't bother with that fancy billet wheel, just go for a full t25 or t28, 22-24 lbs boost should yield half decent power
