First post!

Well I turn 40 this year (my how time has passed) and well I've treated myself to a phase 1 GTT which has (as I assume most of them have by now), been heavily modified and I'd like to get it something back to standard, especially inside, quite happy for the engine to remain (although at current I don't know an awful lot about), but the guy I bought it from was a member on here (Josh Reeves) so maybe somebody can give input :)

I will get pics up when the weather pics up, but just thought I'd say HI!

Evening Matt,

Radcliffe way, so not too far. Very kind of you to offer sir and while my knowledge on these things is limited I've been a fan of working on engines and cars for a few years, so while I'm not a mechanic, I have a pair of hands and plenty of tools

I'm probably more a "all the gear and no idea" person :laugh::laugh:

PS. Not really got much plans, other than to put the car back to original inside and sort a few cosmetic issues out... Also pleasing to read it's a good motor, the engine is like a work of art....

I've noticed the pass door doesn't close too well, but will have a look tomorrow and sure it'll just be the mechanism in the door which hopefully requires a little greasing.

Josh was upset to say the least.......

We only came into contact through a mutual friend and I bought the car blind, but boy am I happy with it... Scared the living crap out of me today (It is going to be a weekend toy, but just couldn't resist taking it to work to show off :wasntme:), I've driven M3's and impreza Turbo's, but god this thing felt on another level, possibly down to the feeling of being highly vulnerable if I lost it... :ashamed:

Cheers for the welcome's gents (and ladies of course, not wanting to upset the opposite sex of course :p)...

Looking forward to learning more about these cars as what I know you would have to write over and over on a postage stamp to fill it...

I need her in my garage now but that space is currently taken by a part completed mk1 gti... 4 years in and still not finished. The misses told me not to buy another 80s car as the one I had wasn't finished, but hey what does she know :laugh:

Welcome mate,

You sound very much like me buddy...I don't really know much about the car either. I had one 20 years ago, but all I used to do was point it in the direction I wanted to go. If it went I was happy, if it didn't it was straight into a garage!

I also have a very anti Mrs regarding the car. To be honest, she's anti everything so it's no great surprise she doesn't like the car either ;)

Welcome, you have yourself a very very good shell and a lump that will most certainly put a smile on your face.

I'm Josh's older bro by the way, Your in the correct place if you want to learn about these cars, all the help and advise you could ever need and access to hard to find parts. I have been here for 8 years almost and still check in numerous times every day.

Glad you like the way it drives, we spent an awful lot of late nights in the garage working on it that's for sure. :agree:

I have never met one person who isn't as shocked as you were the first time they drive one:laugh:

Wow what a great community this is, I've been a member of numerous other forums, scoobynet, SELOC and the MK!GTI etc and never received such a warm welcome.

I look forward to sharing some joy as well as some pain I'm sure and equally look forward to learning all about the R5.

If I'm being honest at the moment I feel I just need to change my name to Marty McFly, you who are old enough will know the name

They are such a good car to mess with as they are not too technical. I've learnt so much over the last month and everybody here is so helpful and full of knowledge.:)
Looking forward to going to some meets this year.

Evening Blunty,

OK, Not starting at the moment, but think it's down to a poor performing Alty, so I have the battery on charge to rule that out. It's not an issue as the car has really been parked up until spring anyway, plenty of time to do some little jobs which are needed.

I have a pal who owns a body shop in Howrich who is coming roung later to have a look as the car has a few minor dents here and there which sadly let her down a little.
