Just another thing that I'm sat here pondering about. I intend to use my phase 1 mainly for 'fast road' use but with the occasional trackday thrown into the mix aswell.
Would it be advisable to look into getting a baffled sump? I'm sure I've seen the plates for sale somewhere but can't remember where. I also recall mention of phase 1s having a baffled sump but may have just dreamed that bit up :crap:
Is it overkill for my intended usage or a wise move?

The cars have made it this far without them :)
Some ph1 cars had them. I did have templates to make them up but binned them when I sold up and gave my baffled sump away, can't remember who took it now.
Plenty of us have done track days without them and drove home.
I personally wouldn't bother.
What exactly is it? Does it hold more oil?

Stops oil moving around within the sump as much on fast bends

That's a job for the weekend then :agree:
Nice if you can get one (I have) but not essential as many have proved. They're found in the PH1 GTT and the R11 Turbo. :)

Are the pickup pipes the same length on the baffled sumps?

The sump is the same, it just has a flat plate bolted in with 2 wings.
It has a cut out for the original pickup.

I am not sure you will need one Ross. Unless you are going round a long, long bend ( and I mean long - like at Mallory Park ) on one , there isnt much chance of oil starvation.
I would be more worried about falling off the blackstuff !
Cheers guys. Learn something new every day!

I remember when stu clarks old red GTT threw a rod bearing at the bruntingthorp national day a few years back, was the situation above that caused it.
As has been said above other than this exact scenario the gtt doesn't need a baffled sump, so as long as you don't have a passion for going round and round roundabouts at high speed I wouldn't worry:laugh:

Chris curve at Cadwell park is a long fast sweeping right hand corner and seeing as this will mainly be where I do trackdays, it may not be such a bad idea. Especially since the engine is out of the car at the moment.
Thanks for your input :)

Have a look at this months issue of Practical Performance Car - they make a baffled sump for their Delta Pig, and change the oil pick up pipe too
