I'm tempted

I'm really tempted.

I've just been looking at this Micky Ping Pong T28 on eBay:

£179 delivered

I've heard some real bad stuff about the build quality of Chinese blowers but, if it'd last say 4,000 miles then I'd be happy enough.

I've got some questions though.

1) Would it bolt up directly to my manifold and standard turbo elbow?
I'm 99% certain that my oil feed would be wrong.

2)I've got a garret t28 from my old S14a that may or may not have a buggered oil seal. Could I swap the core from the eBay blower into it and would there be any benefit in doing this?

3) with low comp pistons, fmic, europarts cam and a 2 1/4" exhaust I should see 200 ponies shouldn't I?

Thanks

my 2P

Ebay isn't a make, no traceability, no quality control. There is no reason why China can't make perfect turbos, but without those 3 things there is no reason why they should. It also means that if you buy the same turbo from the same supplier as your mate you may not get the same results.

Some folks have had reasonable results, others have failed.

That isn't a Garrett, so it's unlikely your Garrett housings will fit.

The 'spec' is a bit made up, but reading between the lines it's claimed to be a copy of a GTiR turbo. Don't count on that. If it is, it's the type of thing that would work on a 172 up to maybe 300hp. It'd want a shot of NOS to be suitable for a C1J.

I'd spend real money on a real blower

What turbo would you guys recommend then?

With the spec of my engine (above) what would I need to get around the 200bhp/200lbft for 20psi or less? It's going to be a road car rather than used for quarter miles so lag has to be minimal.

Thanks

Ross

You'd also have to rotate one of the housings for C1J fitment, which would mean re-tapping (if there's sufficient metal present) the comp' housing for the actuator bracket.

Yeah I saw that mart but thought I could mount it on the rear of the housing where you undo the bolts to rotate it

Looks like the comp' housing is circlip'd to the chra, a la o.e T2.

Looks like I'll be giving that a miss then :crap:

Thanks mart.

Any suggestions for a good turbo?

The lower c/r won't help matters, plus coupled with a larger blower will naturally dictate there being a 'delay' in spool/lag present.

The 200sx blower you've got will probably be ok, assuming it's got a <.49 hotside fitted?

Would cost next to nothing to replace that oil seal, or you could completely overhaul it altogether:

Edit: That kit is the first one I found on Google/Ebay - You might be able to find better/cheaper kits.

I always thought it was impossible to rebuild the gt28 core.

Might have to get in touch with Bernie's blowers and see what they can do for me then.

Only if it's a roller bearing, journal types ones are repairable.

I'd go smaller on the turbo than that, T2/25 maybe? 200 is just a number. But I guess that depends upon how much overlap the EP cam has. Never measured one, so you're on your own there.

check out the quality:

When you look at the picture of the turbine face that you'd bolt your elbow to compare the position of the 5 bolt holes to the shape of the casting.

When you look at the compressor outlet flange compare the location of the centre hole to the outside of the casting.

Both look well out of position.

What's your thoughts on this one?

From what I can decipher, the comp housing is the same as used on the 'low pressure turbo' Saab 9000s
