Buying discs from renault? You must be made of £££

Look at the parts price comparison spreadsheet in the articles ;)

my experience of pattern wheel bearings means that I now only buy genuine. Admittedly I get them 'trade'.

Do u know how much 2 genuine rear bearings are ?

SKF are about £34 ea on ebay, no idea about dealer price.

Are pattern bearings a waste of time then ?

Guybrush

I'd imagine they'd wear out faster, but they should t disintegrate on you. They have to be fit for purpose.

pretty sure that the disks from Renault have bearings already fitted - anyone confirm?

correct, all depends upon how often you fancy changing them, those cheap parts soon get expensive.

I wouldn't imagine so

At £34 I could replace my bearings 3 times for the cost of those skf ones (and they aren't genuine are they?).
I wouldn't buy a cheap oil filter tho ;)

The rear discs I bought from Renault for my 172 a while back came with bearings in.

FWIW I always try to use dealer parts these days. You might pay a bit more, but you know they're going to fit, work, and last.

you need to update your spreadsheet, you have them at £17 (+ delivery?)

Renault will use SKF bearings, assuming the ones you buy aren't fake...

I don't have a press, so I don't swap bearings for fun, you may well be swapping them more often than twice as often. I'm lazy, I don't like doing the same job twice.

I just bought a front bearing from CGB for £12 delivered.. He sells the rears for the same price.

Tempted to put cgb and gtts prices on spreadsheet too, but given interest in it would just be a waste of my time :crap:

I have use of a press, and actually quite like doing the rears.. ;) plus you get to sling new discs and pads on at the same time :)
The fronts aren't as much fun.

Does anyone know if they come with bearings already pressed in from Renault ?

Gtturbo

Yes mate, they do. Same rear disc as Clio 1.8 16v, early Clio Williams (Non ABS), Renault 19 16v, 172 / 182's are also the same disc but have an ABS ring on them.

That's what I'd tell you to buy, but they are my cheap discs with the aforementioned £12 bearings.
Nothing wrong with that IMO, but if you want genuine - you should buy those French discs, source some bearings and take them down to any garage who will charge you £10-£20 to press them in.

Thanks for ur help. I'd like genuine discs tbh as I've put apec on the front and they can't be bought for the rear so decided to stay with genuine parts. Only asking as those discs on ebay are a good price. And 120 at Renault but if they come with bearings pressed in then I guess 120 isn't bad at all. That's the reason why I'm asking do they come pressed in from Renault ?
Ps my cousin is a mechanic so get all my work done free :)

Buy cheap buy twice.....or even three/four times.

It's the same with a lot of pattern parts, not all granted but things like balljoints , track rod ends, bearings, discs will all be far superior quality from Renault.

If your not going to be doing loads of miles or giving the car a hard time then the cheaper option might work out ok, but anything else and it can often work out more expensive.

The last time I replaced the rear wheel bearings on my gtt they were genuine ones, 6 years ago and probably 15k miles and still in really good condition, before that I went through two sets of pattern bearings in 6k.........

Worst case, you'll end up spending £246 on a set of rear discs and bearings

Most of Renault dealers I have used in the past just dream up a price anyway, only ever used one decent one and now it's shut down.:disagree:

Simple answer is to give your nearest dealers parts department a ring, sound all grufty and mechanic like and you might get "trade" prices!

I've rang them back they said they would ring Renault themselves and come back to me saying other disc come with bearings and the 5 gt turbo discs don't have them. And gave me the part number for the disc which is 7701204287
But then mike says last time he ordered they came fitted. Something do simple is turning it something so stressful. :(

My local Renault place will search for everything I run past them. Delivery it for free and also give me a discount. The reason being is that the chap used to own a 5 GT Turbo and as sad as it sounds he still remembers old part numbers. Legend.
