I'm thinking of buying an alloy rad but not sure what to go for ? should I go for one without and oil cooler or with ? don't mind spending the extra for a oil cooler if it does a better job. And what size is best as it looks quite tight should I stick to 36mm or go bigger ?

I got one with dodgy welds it did 500 miles ok, always felt it ran hotter than a standard rad.

If I was you I'd look at a standard renault radiator. Not any copper core rubbish either.

Never had a problem with any of them to be honest, I think standard cools the best but ali or copper core {if in good nick} still do the job when the set up is right.

The problem with the OE ones is..... They don't make them anymore! So if you can find a NOS one they tend to go for £££. I need a new rad myself and I'm unsure what to go for. It'll either be an ali one or an Extra 1.6d one....

Totally :agree: I've just bought an alloy one for this very reason, I had to move my outlet to a different location to clear my boost pipe, I would never be able to do this to my copper cored jobbie. Oh and I do like a bit of shine :D

Having not actually looked! But would I be right in saying the extra van ones would be difficult to source too?

Fordy, what brand or supplier did you use? Just so others can avoid.

Not really, there's usually some going on eBay. They don't have an oil cooler built in so that's something you have to think about if you're looking at buying one. :)

Was off eBay 50mm without oil cooler ports, but I wouldn't be surprised if most Ali rads come from the same source
