I currently have a double cap breadbin intercooler would it benefit to change to a 2wd cossie?

Gt tuning bread bin FTW cossie good still. Different pipe lay out... Cossie coolers FTW too
I'm sure I remember reading years ago about a test that was conducted with all the usual gtt upgrade intercoolers tested,
The bread bin was by far the best standard replacement cooler but I'm sure the cossi cooler was slightly more efficient. Probably more due to position and air flow.

i just need to decide if its worth changing or not worth the hassle for the gain if any.
The problem is i don't want to affect the look of the car at all but the idea if going front mount appeals

It's a shame the links in the article are broken. I'm sure there were some proper comparison tests done on efficiency, flow, temps etc. IIRC the outcome was that replacing the OE cooler with a similarly sized one that sat in the same place allowed virtually no improvement, beyond the fact that you were doing away with the weakness associated with the plastic end caps. And that front-mounted ones were the way to go if you wanted to make spending the money worthwhile.

We performed a b2b comparrision back in the day on track. Compared oe, "strapped and flowed" oe, pace oe, ktec double capacity and the GTT bread bin. Using a fairly slow SPA temp sensor to measure ex turbo pre I/C temp and a K-type thermocouple measuring ex I/C pre carb. Wasn't data logged mind, the passanger was holding the spa guage in one hand and the dvm in the other. PMT at its finest!!!!
All results from memory, ex turbo temps stayed fairly consestent throughout the day at around 110deg, dropped off a bit towards the end of the day. Ambient temp was around 20deg I think but obviously dropped off during the course of the day.
OE was the worst only cooling to around 90 - 95 deg
Strapped and flowed OE no change to std OE
Pace OE dropped to about 85
K-tec double capacity only to around 80
The breadbin gave the best result and dropped to about 50deg. This was the last one tested at the end of the day mind so ambient was a bit lower (but ex turbo temps stayed about the same)
Car was old trusty, not sure what blower was in situ or what boost it was pushing though. Probably 18psi carb base on a T2 / T25 jobbie?? Mart may remember.
Think Eugine popped a head gasket and that repair took over a fair chunk of the day, or was that a different track day??
I wouldn't worry about changing the look of the car, it's possible to fit lots of coolers including the cossi one, (2wd)without cutting of the front bumper/grill, obviously the boost pipe run will be different under the bonnet but that's it really.
Campus crank pulley and belt give a little more clearance round the alt as does moving the rad over and extending the top rad hose.
Front mounts are a pretty proven efficient way of cooling but to be fair personally upto 20lb I would just stick with the bread bin cooler, unless your planning on boosting for prolonged periods. Only my opinion.

Bood. I edited my post above just as you were typing. It looks like there was indeed some reasonable improvement to be had from the bread bin type cooler, although it was the only one that sat in an OE position that was really any good. A front mount should still be a step up anyway. :agree:

I have a 2wd cossie cooler on mine, no mods to bodywork / bumpers at all. Pipework run as the below pic.
